It is absolutely disgusting tactics by America. They are basically putting the Ukrainians in an impossible situation. I hope history doesn't forget this despicable act for a long time. Zelensky has finally replied on Twitter/X - hopefully he has taken some advice from European leaders too.

Volodymyr Zelenskyy has said his disastrous meeting with Donald Trump last week "did not go the way it was supposed to" and "it is regrettable that it happened this way".

He added: "It is time to make things right. We would like future cooperation and communication to be constructive."

Days after the volatile meeting in the Oval Office, the US president ordered a pause in military support to Ukraine.

In a lengthy post on X the Ukrainian president said he would like to "reiterate Ukraine's commitment to peace" and said Kyiv is "ready to come to the negotiating table as soon as possible".

He said the country was ready to sign an agreement on minerals and security with the US.

Here is Zelenskyy's post in full:
Donald Trump is holding out for a "bigger, better" version of the Ukraine minerals deal after Volodymyr Zelensky announced that Kyiv was ready to sign the proposal.

Donald Trump is not planning to sign a minerals deal between the US and Ukraine tonight. Earlier reports indicated that Trump was planning to conclude the controversial "rare earths" deal this evening and announce it in his joint address to Congress.

However, Mr Bessent, the US Treasury Secretary, told Fox News there was "no signing planned".

White House insiders said there had not been any movement on the proposal, which would grant the US half of Ukraine's revenues from its critical minerals as payback for military support.

I hope the rest of the world tell them to get to f*ck.

This is very bad for Ukraine.

Mike Waltz, Donald Trump's national security adviser, appears to have confirmed pausing intelligence sharing with the Ukrainians.

"We have taken a step back, and are pausing and reviewing all aspects of this relationship," he told reporters a short time ago when asked to confirm the reports.

"But I just got off the phone before I walked out here with my counterpart, the Ukrainian national security adviser. We are having good talks... I think we're going to see movement in very short order."

This move is another blow for Kyiv after Trump decided to pause all military aid to Ukraine following a bust-up with Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy in the White House.

Earlier, Waltz said Trump will consider lifting the pause on military aid to Ukraine if peace talks are arranged and "confidence-building measures" are taken.

This is very bad for Ukraine.
Question now is all of this a "stick" to bend Zelensky to Trump's will or is America permanently pulling support for Ukraine irrespective of what Zelensky does? Is this Trump holding out for a "bigger, better" version of the mineral deal?

A great speech by French Senator, Claude Malhuret, taking aim at Trump and Musk, then talks about the need for European unity.

Wow, the stopping of intelligence too.

In addition to the damage being done to Ukraine, this is also very damaging long term to the US, who are now showing they are not allies at all and we are going to have to build a future without them.

Once we get to the point of not needing them, their importance drops off significantly.

Before today it was possible Trump just didn't care about Ukraine. But after the decision to stop sharing intelligence with Ukraine, and telling European countries to stop getting involved (after previously saying they needed to do more), there is no doubt now Trump actively wants them to lose to Russia. Europe as a whole needs to accept this and stop thinking it can win him over. We can't, so must move on from their reliance for good.

I agree.

Besides which, who here actually thinks that Russia would agree to stop fighting now that Trump has given them hope that they now have a better chance?
