Metro Exodus
The year is 2036.

A quarter-century after nuclear war devastated the earth, a few thousand survivors still cling to existence beneath the ruins of Moscow, in the tunnels of the Metro.

They have struggled against the poisoned elements, fought mutated beasts and paranormal horrors, and suffered the flames of civil war. But now, as Artyom, you must flee the Metro and lead a band of Spartan Rangers on an incredible, continent-spanning journey across post-apocalyptic Russia in search of a new life in the East.

Metro Exodus is an epic, story-driven first person shooter from 4A Games that blends deadly combat and stealth with exploration and survival horror in one of the most immersive game worlds ever created. Explore the Russian wilderness across vast, non-linear levels and follow a thrilling story-line that spans an entire year through spring, summer and autumn to the depths of nuclear winter.

Inspired by the novels of Dmitry Glukhovsky, Metro Exodus continues Artyom’s story in the greatest Metro adventure yet.

Metro Exodus is getting a meaty next-gen upgrade later in 2021 and some extra visual enhancements for high-end PCs. Deep Silver and 4A Games announced the Metro Exodus next-gen versions in a new blog post and said both the console and PC upgrades will be free.

Metro Exodus on PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X will support 4K visuals and run at 60fps, along with improved load times. The Xbox Series X version is getting spatial audio enhancements and reduced control input latency, while the PlayStation 5 version will support the DualSense's haptics.

The next-gen upgrades also include ray tracing on both consoles, a feature previously exclusive to high-end PCs. Specifically, it's Deep Silver's Ray Traced Global Illumination and Ray Traced Emissive Lighting made possible by the dev team "overhauling" the game's engine.

Deep Silver won't leave Xbox Series S owners out of the fun. Metro Exodus on Xbox Series S features 1080p resolution, 60fps, and full ray tracing.

Existing owners get the next-gen version for free, with Smart Delivery support on Xbox Series X|S.

Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition uses Deep Silver's new ray tracing technology to deliver "the ultimate ray traced experience." It requires a ray tracing capable GPU as the bare minimum and will be issued as a separate game instead of as a patch. However, Metro Exodus PC Enhanced Edition will still be free for existing owners.

Metro Exodus will be launching for Xbox Series X|S as an enhanced edition via Smart Delivery on June 18th. The new optimisations will allow the game to run at up to 4K/60fps, add ray tracing, and support new field of view options.

If you thought Metro Exodus looked good on the Xbox One, then you’ll be in for a treat come June 18th when the enhanced edition releases for Xbox Series X|S. With the game being optimised for the latest generation of consoles, Koch Media is promising to have the game running at 4K/60fps on the Xbox Series X and 1080p/60fps on Xbox Series S. To sweeten the pot, we can also expect to see the game operating fully ray-traced lighting to achieve depth and authenticity to the game world — now you can see being eaten by mutated creatures in a new light. Metro Exodus running on Xbox Series X will also take advantage of a new 4K texture pack that adds a new level of detail to everything in the world, from weapons to creatures.

If you’re looking to have more of the new visuals on your screen, then you might like the new field of view widening options. This will allow you to customise your screen to fit best with your style of play. Additionally, the enhanced edition of Metro Exodus will include reduced loading times and 3D audio.

Players on Xbox Series X|S that have already purchased the game can enjoy the improvements on June 18th free of charge via Smart Delivery. Alternatively, if you’re yet to jump into the game, Metro Exodus: Complete Edition is launching on the same day and will include the base game and all previous DLC packs. There’s currently no store listing for the Complete Edition, but we’ll be sure to let you know when it’s up.
