Two fight deal agreed with Tyson and Joshua next year! Excellent news, will be a cracking build-up and a decent set of fights.

Mike Coppinger reporting Canelo Alvarez vs Billy Joe Saunders has been agreed for May!

The WBA, WBC & WBO belts on the line.

The fight was originally planned for May 2020, but one year later, it’s finally set to happen.

Canelo Alvarez and Billy Joe Saunders have agreed to a deal for a super middleweight title unification bout on Cinco De Mayo weekend in the US. The Mexican celebration falls on a Wednesday this year, so the bout could land on either May 1 or May 8. DAZN will stream the fight worldwide except in Mexico.

Josh Warrington took an absolute beating tonight from Mauricio Lara in what will be regarded a shock.

The ref and corner did Warrington no favours, the fight should have been stopped in the 4th when Warrington took a massive beating. That could have effectively ended his career.

Warrington put in a hell of a graft. His power was not as damaging as Lara’s. The referee possibly could have called it in round 4, but had he, you can bet folks be slating him for premature stoppage. Incredible Warrington then survived 4 more rounds, as well as fighting so hard in them.

The end to the Berchelt/Valdez fight was absolutely brutal.

The actual shot wasn’t particularly heavy. Valdez is not a big hitter. The fact that Berchelt was falling forward into meant it had more an effect. The head kind of just snapped back from the forward momentum hitting a fist.

Similar to Pacquiao’s falling forward onto Marquez’s perfectly timed overhand right

What did folks make of Berchelt? He is ranked very highly at 130. I have seen some of his fights before this one. I thought he was dreadful last night. Slow, ponderous, predictable. No zip, and absolutely no defense. He was walking Valdez down all night, but doing eff all other than slow laboured push-punches whilst eating shots all night.

It's hard to know. Some people have suggested he's outgrown the weight, others saying that him catching Covid could have effected him etc. Can't take anything away from Valdez though.

Berchelt was poor on the night. He's always looked a little one dimensional to me anyway but he was better than he looked maybe? Big and strong at weight. Could bully or outfight other guys and had good power. Hard to beat certainly.

Valdez had good movement and good punch selection. His power was very impressive also against a bigger guy. The team Canelo conditioning was impressive once again also.
