For fans of Cormac McCarthy, I definitely recommend The Thousand Crimes of Ming Tsu.
This sounds great. I'm reading a collection of Richard Ford short stories atm. Just finished The Dutch House - Anne Patchett - which I really liked.

Holding by Graham Norton. In holiday mode this week so wanted something a bit lighter than usual. It was between this one and Home Stretch, which I'm sure I'll get to at some stage.

'Blood Meridian' by Cormac McCarthy. Can't believe I have never got round to reading this before, it's so good.

Just started reading the Slough House spy series by Mick Herron. They've been on my radar for a while but finally got around to the first, Slow Horses. Absolutely loved it, but what's even better is that feeling that you've got a whole series of them ahead of you, apparently of consistent if not increasing quality.

Finished The Nix by Nathan Hill.

A fantastic novel that has both interesting use of language and some great commentary on the human condition without being too demanding to read. He's clearly influenced by Pynchon but with a much easier to penetrate set of references and Hill himself said John Irving is a big influence.

The Kite Runner - Khaled Hosseini

Beautiful and Haunting.

Been reading graphic novels a lot of late. Currently working through Once & Future by Kieron Gillen, artwork by Dan Mora. Basically, some UK nationalists cast a spell to resurrect King Arthur (to their everlasting regret, I might add), setting up a saga of ancient stories being revived and revisited in the 21st century. Protagonists are a retired monster hunter and her grandson. Arthur is, oddly, the Big Bad. Beowulf, Grendel, the Green Knight and more make appearances as well. 18 issue comic series compiled into 3 volumes in graphic novel form. Multiple award noms, including a 2021 Hugo nom for the first volume.

The Volunteer: The True Story of the Resistance Hero Who Infiltrated Auschwitz by Jack Fairweather

As the title states, this book tells the true story of Witold Pilecki, a Polish resistance operative who deliberately allowed himself to be captured by the Nazi's for the purpose of gathering intel for the Polish resistance movement to pass onto the Polish government-in-exile and the allies. It's a very interesting read of a man whom the Polish Communists subsequently executed and attempted to erase from history. Pilecki's story only came to light when the national archives finally became available after the collapse of the Soviet Union.

The only gripe that I have with this book is the small font used.

I started Stephen King's Billy Summers yesterday, I'm somewhere between a quarter and a third of the way through and I have to say, it's reminding me quite a bit of 11.22.63 with the whole "guy assumes a fake identity and has to try not to blow his cover while waiting to kill someone" shtick.

(And before anyone cries "spoilers", there's nothing there that you won't read on the back of either book.)

I finished the Tales of the Otori trilogy by Lian Hearn. Epic. Just Epic.
