Mikel Arteta has agreed an improved new contract with Premier League champions Arsenal, with his current deal due to run out at the end of this season.
Talks have been going on for months, and it was reported earlier this month that a deal was close. It is now understood that Arteta has reached a final agreement with the club, which will keep him at Arsenal into at least his 10th year there after arriving in December 2019.
The new contract is also set to bring a significant pay rise from his current package of £10m a year plus £5m in bonuses. Arteta said last week that fans did not need to worry because he wanted to stay, adding that he was "extremely happy" and "very grateful" to work with the people around him.
The move underlines how central Arteta remains to Arsenal's recent rise. He has already led them to their first Premier League title in 20 years last season, and the club also came close to winning their first Champions League trophy. With the agreement now in place, Arsenal keep the manager who has been key to that revival.

Watched the first episode of season 2.
Enjoyed it. It was completely centred around Harry (Tom Hardy) which was interesting with plenty of humour thrown in.

Love or loathe the man, he is box office in every sense.
Really enjoyed it and flew through the three episodes.
The plot is ludicrous, and Robert De Niro - as in so many of his latter performances - is just going through the motions.

Good to see some fresh players given a chance - something that should have been done a long time ago.
Activision has released the official campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and it leans heavily on in-engine cinematics.
The campaign is set against the backdrop of a full-scale invasion that pushes the world to the brink of war. Players will follow a young squad of South Korean soldiers trying to survive on the front lines, while Captain Price carries out a personal mission from the shadows and stays ahead of those hunting him. As his path intersects with the forces behind the invasion, the conflict escalates even further.
The game is aiming for a darker tone and a story focused on the cost of war. It will also bring several long-running storylines to a dramatic conclusion. The campaign will take players across multiple locations worldwide, including the trenches of Korea, the streets of New York, Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and occupied cities that must be reclaimed.
Todd Boehly and Mark Walter have sold their stakes in Chelsea to majority owner Clearlake Capital, giving the group full control of the club. Swiss billionaire Hansjorg Wyss has also sold his stake.
Clearlake, led by co-founders Behdad Eghbali and Jose E. Feliciano, already held 61.5% of the club. Boehly, Walter and Wyss each had a 12.8% stake. Boehly will step down as chairman, a role he has held since the consortium bought Chelsea for £2.3bn from Roman Abramovich in 2022.
Boehly said it had been an honour to serve as chairman and thanked those involved at the club, while Clearlake said it appreciated his contribution and would keep focusing on infrastructure, sporting performance, player development and long-term success. Chelsea also said there would be no changes to day-to-day operations, leadership or strategy.
The move follows reports that talks had started inside the ownership group after a rift emerged, with both sides exploring buyouts. Chelsea's ownership has been in place since 2022, and the club's highest Premier League finish under it has been fourth in 2024-25, alongside wins in the Uefa Conference League and Fifa Club World Cup that season. The club also finished 10th last season and appointed Xabi Alonso as manager in the summer.
