Memories of Brit Pop

A mate of mine has a massive record collection - we were going through a load of his vinyls and CDs and we got to this era of music. Some good bands were categorised as "Brit Pop" but some were absolute shockers.

Some positives and negatives looking back at it in hindsight. It is quite odd listening back to some of the bands and how poor they were. Some bands were just lumped into the term as well, Suede being one I'd say.

Any favourites of the time, memories of gigs etc?

Good band Suede.

It was probably the last era when there was a genuine buzz about new albums coming out before the internet got big and stuff started leaking out

I agree with Suede. TBH, many bands, mostly the best ones of the era, were only classed as Britpop because of their timing.

True. I would buy any music magazine with a tape stuck on the front to see what new bands were being pushed. That and having to wait until MTV Europe stopped playing Bush and Counting Crows videos on repeat to get to anything that might be of interest
