The Donald Trump Presidency Thread After Hours

Thread Insights Discussion AI ▼
The tumultuous era of Trump's presidency continues to spiral into chaos.
5/10 Heated debate

The post sets a basic framework for discussion but lacks specific topics or questions to guide the conversation. It would benefit from more detail to enhance community engagement.

Trump presidency chaos polarization leadership outrage

The discussion opens with early criticisms of President Trump's remarks and actions, pointing to a pattern of irresponsible leadership and divisive rhetoric that has incited chaos across the nation. Participants express disbelief at his treatment of issues like the pandemic and social unrest, underlining a deep sense of frustration and discontent with his administration's approach.12

As the thread progresses, the tone intensifies; commenters share shocking instances of Trump's statements and policies, with many witnesses describing him as morally unfit for office. The dialogue reveals a consensus around the belief that Trump's actions have exacerbated existing divisions and have resulted in a deterioration of American political discourse.34

In the later stages, the conversation shifts towards Trump's ongoing political maneuvers, including his handling of various crises and legal challenges. Many express doubt about the future of American democracy under his influence and raise concerns over his ability to retain power despite the mounting opposition. The sentiment among participants indicates a grim outlook for the nation's political landscape.56

Verdict

The thread reveals that while the chaos of Trump's presidency has entrenched feelings of outrage and disillusionment, participants remain vigilant in their analysis of the ongoing situation. No clear resolution appears likely as issues continue to fester.

Interesting breaking news:

Major TV networks — ABC, CBS, Fox News and NBC — agreed to suspend their pooled coverage of President Trump after the White House blocked CNN from its duties.

Ball back in Trump's court now or else he will have no coverage of his comings and goings, not great for the Donald's ego, I imagine.

An excellent summary of Trump's history of lying, and what it means, by CNN's fact-checker:

Dale shares 15 key insights and lessons learned from tracking Trump's persistent dishonesty throughout his political career. The main points include:
  • Trump's Unique Dishonesty: Dale argues that no other Washington politician lies as frequently, obviously, or about as many topics as Trump. He describes Trump as a "rare, very possibly once-in-a-lifetime political liar."
  • Crisis and Lying: Trump increases his dishonesty during political crises, such as elections, scandals, or the Covid-19 pandemic.
  • Trivial Lies: Trump often lies about small, inconsequential things, which Dale sees as a distinguishing trait.
  • Repetition of Falsehoods: Many of Trump's lies are repeated so often that fact-checkers can debunk them from memory.
  • Recognisable Patterns: Trump has "tells" when lying, such as stories involving unnamed people calling him "sir" or exaggerated tales of dominance.
  • Unreliable Numbers: Almost all statistics Trump cites are suspect, even when the truth would serve him well.
  • Consumer and Spreader of Misinformation: Trump not only invents falsehoods but also believes and spreads conspiracy theories from others.
  • Indifference to Fact-Checking: Trump is aware of fact-checks but continues to repeat debunked claims without shame.
  • Support System: Trump is now surrounded by people willing to defend his falsehoods, making dishonesty more normalised in his circle.
  • Media Challenges: Both pro-Trump and neutral media often fail to adequately address his dishonesty, partly due to the sheer volume of falsehoods (a "flood the zone" strategy).
  • Public Response: While many Americans care about Trump's lying, a significant portion of his base either doesn't mind or actively enjoys his antagonism toward the establishment.
  • Perceived Honesty: Speaking without a filter helps Trump appear authentic to some, even if his statements are untrue.
  • Self-Damaging Lies: Lies about everyday issues like prices are more likely to hurt Trump politically, as they are easily disproven by people's experiences.
  • Real-World Harm: Dale concludes that Trump's lies have caused significant harm, including contributing to violence, public health risks, and undermining democracy.
Overall, the article provides a detailed, personal account of the challenges and societal impact of fact-checking a political figure who lies at an unprecedented scale.

Donald Trump's latest White House decor drew swift backlash Thursday after a reporter spotted framed photos of the president posing alongside Russian President Vladimir Putin and Chinese President Xi Jinping.

Jacqueline Alemany, a Washington correspondent for MS NOW, posted images showing the Palm Room doors lined with photographs, including one of Trump and Putin and another showing Trump smiling and shaking hands with Xi.

The display quickly sparked a wave of online criticism.

Trump appeared to fall asleep in the middle of a White House press event again, and people made a meme out of it.

It was with some irony that Trump mentioned "Sleepy Joe Biden" (his pejorative nickname for his presidential predecessor) during the announcement, before handing over to others in the room and getting rather sleepy himself.

Two clips were stitched together between the "a few moments later" – the first showed Trump saying "Sleepy Joe Biden, have you heard of him?" and it ended with Trump fast asleep in his chair.

Apparently, he claimed he had an "IQ of 1775 and the highest IQ in the world"

The man is an idiot.

I listened to a very interesting news article today that basically said they wouldn't be surprised if there were a false-flag Iranian attack in the US and Trump declared a national emergency, postponing the midterm elections. It also tied in the recent alleged Iranian attacks on that plane where the pilot was stabbed, and the terror plot (or non-plot) at RAF Fairford.

President Donald Trump has sparked outrage after appearing to suggest Iran "take out" two American cities.

Speaking at a rally in Grand Island, Nebraska, on Monday, the commander-in-chief addressed the subject of high gas prices sparked by Operation Epic Fury.

"Remember, with the war, it's just artificial," Trump said of the soaring costs. "It's a little bit high." The national average fuel price stands at $4.37 a gallon as of Tuesday morning, according to the AAA.

"It's a small price to pay for keeping the world safe, keeping our country safe," he continued, before adding: "They can take out a city – let 'em take, let 'em take out Los Angeles, let 'em take out San Diego. That's – this is a very small price to pay."

"And it's going to be over very soon," Trump continued. "It's essentially almost over with. And they might keep going a little long, you know. They always say they have a big threshold for pain. They need it, let me tell you."

The world and the USA were safe or safer before Trump attacked Iran. That article could be right. Very weird that he should mention those two particular cities as targets, it's like he's "setting up" an event as a false flag (or another one - keeping his options open) to invoke martial law.

The Trump administration has unveiled sweeping sanctions on the International Criminal Court (ICC) in a significant acceleration of its attempt to "dismantle" what it sees as a "rogue" institution.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio said the measures - which include a ban on US entities making transactions with the ICC - were intended to "defend US sovereignty" and accused the court of seeking to prosecute Americans.

The ICC said the measures were an assault on the rule of law and the foundations of the international legal order.

The US has already sanctioned 17 of the ICC's judges and officials, but this move sanctions the court itself as an institution and is intended to collapse its ability to operate financially.

The UK and the rest of the G7 Nations and Denmark have all strongly condemned the sanctions and have said they will work to keeping the ICC operational.

The same day the US announce sanctions aimed at destroying the ICC. Is it a coincidence one of their former judges' just got awarded the Nobel Peace Prize?
