Two Dead in Brussels Shooting After Hours

Belgium's Prime Minister links it to terrorism.

The victims were wearing Swedish football shirts at the time of the shooting, according to Belgian media.

Sweden's national football team are playing in a Euro qualifier match against Belgium in the capital this evening.

No suspect has yet been arrested, and police have cordoned off the scene, according to local media reports.

The Euro 2024 qualifier between Belgium and Sweden was abandoned at half-time following the fatal shooting in central Brussels on Monday night.

According to Swedish press the perpetrator has released a video where he claims allegiance to ISIS and says he targeted Swedes to avenge muslims.

The gunman, a 45-year-old Tunisian living illegally in Belgium, was shot and killed by police this morning after being spotted in a cafe.

The two victims are reported as men, one in his 60s the other in is 70s. A third Swedish man, also in his 70s, remains in hospital.

This is more than likely an attack against Sweden. There has been an increasing threat over the past couple of years caused by individuals burning the Koran in deliberate, vile acts of hate though this behaviour does not represent the majority of Swedish people.

The murderer has previously served a prison sentence in Sweden between 2012-14, after which he was expelled from the country as he was there illegally.
