Demon Copperhead is a decent read based on the impact of the opioid crisis in Appalachia. It is a story of survival, really.

I thought it lost its way a bit in the middle, but finished strongly.

I'm always on the lookout for "something different" and this fit the bill - really enjoyed it

I don't think I've ever been invested in a fictional character as much as I was invested in Demon. I laughed, cried and my heart nearly exploded in the end.

This book is not as easy read, it is devastating and sad, but so full of humanity and hope.

Easy 5 Stars!

Fantastic read. It's a modern take on David Copperfield (admittedly, I have never read David Copperfield, so I'm paraphrasing the author here). It's the story of one boy's struggle through childhood, starting with a single parent, then moving through foster care and all the challenges along the way, including references to the Oxycontin problems in the States. It's heartbreaking, funny and inspiring sometimes all in the one chapter! I would go so far as to say it's a modern day classic.

I really enjoyed this. It is an interesting modern reimagining of David Copperfield. Very dark but also very astute observationally and very funny.

Explores the themes of David Copperfield in a modern-day American setting. Basically how children find it difficult/impossible to escape terrible beginnings in life, due to a large extent by the actions or inactions of those who could help them.

A lot of the characters from David Copperfield are there in a thinly veiled disguise e.g. the Micawbers and Uriah Heep.

I like Kingsolver as a writer, and mostly enjoyed this book, but using the "same" characters was a bit of a distraction which only reminded me that David Copperfield is a better book.
