Hands-free (Hands-free Pose / No-hands Hold)

Level: Intermediate / Advanced

Description

Any pole position executed without the use of the hands, relying entirely on leg grip, hip pinch, torso pressure, or armpit grip. Includes hangs, sits, and inverted holds. A major confidence milestone for many dancers.

Muscles Used
  • Adductors
  • Core stabilisers
  • Hip flexors
  • Glutes
Typical Use
  • Transitions into other shapes
  • Dramatic moments in routines
  • Rest points in combos
Common Mistakes
  • Letting grip loosen before stabilising
  • Not engaging core before releasing hands
  • Over-reliance on friction instead of muscular squeeze
Safety Notes

Always test grip before releasing your hands. Train with mats until confident.

Variations
  • Hands-free layback
  • Hands-free cross-knee release
  • Hands-free ankle hang
