Cormac McCarthy, a preeminent voice in American literature over the better part of the past half-century, died today at his home in Santa Fe, N.M., his publisher, Knopf, confirmed. He was 89.



A great American writer.

I really enjoyed the films of No Country For Old Men and The Road although haven't actually read any of his work.

I'm a huge fan. He wrote my favourite ever novel. Suttree. Doesn't get talked about as much as his westerns but it's superbly written. Completely blew me away.

Suttree is great, reminds me a good bit of a Steinbeck novel.

The Passenger, released last year along with Stella Maris, was good as well.

A huge talent and a real inspiration to aspiring writers, given how (comparatively) late he came to it. The Border trilogy are three of my favourite novels of all time and I also loved The Road. The way he put words together was so beautiful.
