Leagues Around the World 2019-20 Season Soccer

The majority of the leagues around the world still have to conclude after being postponed during the Covid-19 outbreak. Some have abandoned the season altogether whilst others are just restarting with games played behind closed doors.

The German league kicked off a few weeks ago and most teams have now played three games. Other major leagues will be following suit soon although league in France, Holland and Scotland have all ended their seasons earlier due to Covid-19.

France, Netherlands, Belgium and Scotland all have new TV deals already in place starting from 2020/21 season.

All 4 of these have been ended. It's clearly prioritising the start of the next season on time under the new deal as being more financially beneficial than finishing the existing one.

Robert Lewandowski chested down Jerome Boateng's chipped pass to net the winner against Werder Bremen - and seal the league with two games to spare.

Bayern's 11th straight Bundesliga win put them 10 points clear of Borussia Dortmund, who have three games left.

Barcelona draw 2-2 with Atletico Madrid in a game that had 4 penalties.

Real Madrid can go 4 clear by beating Getafe which they should manage. I'm not sure what Barcelona's plans are beyond Pjanic in the transfer market but they need so much on and off the pitch now its going to be tough in a few years time. They drew with Celta last weekend who lost 5-1 to Mallorca earlier.

Celtic will commence their bid for an unprecedented 10th successive Scottish Premiership title at home to Hamilton Academical on 2 August.

Steven Gerrard's Rangers will travel to Aberdeen the previous day with fixtures across the league set to be initially played behind closed doors.

Elsewhere, newly-promoted Dundee United will play their first top-flight game in four years at home to St Johnstone.

The opening Old Firm match is scheduled for 17 October at Celtic Park.

The SPFL website states the season will start on time next month subject to approval from the Scottish Government.

IFAB: "The impact on player welfare is likely to continue into 2021"; each competition can decide whether they want to use additional substitutes next season

Five substitutes will be allowed next season, football lawmakers have announced following a meeting of the International Football Association Board (IFAB).

However, each competition will be free to decide whether they want to use the additional substitutes next season.

The Premier League, EFL and SPFL are yet to decide whether they will allow five substitutes from next season, while the FA have not confirmed the extension will also apply in FA Cup ties next season.

Premier League clubs are due to meet on July 24 and could discuss the matter then. The EFL is expected to consult clubs at the end of the season and the Scottish Football Association's Annual General Meeting takes place on July 22.

The measure, designed to help manage player workloads in seasons affected by the coronavirus pandemic, initially covered competitions finishing in 2020.

Hopefully, the leagues will revert back to the 3 subs rule.
