Question, has there been any confirmation as to whether or not Sainz is back this weekend?

He said he won't participate in the Australian Grand Prix unless he feels optimal during Friday practice in Melbourne.

I think it is safe to say Sainz will be taking a full part in the weekend

Ferrari driver Charles Leclerc set the benchmark in the second one-hour practice at the Australian Grand Prix, dominating proceedings both on the medium and the soft compound. Max Verstappen finished four-tenths of a second behind with the returning Carlos Sainz impressing with the third-quickest lap.

Alex Albon, meanwhile, was forced to sit out FP2 altogether following a heavy crash in the first practice session. The Thai driver was uninjured but the Williams squad required further time to assess the damage to his car.

Despite struggling with the balance of his car on Friday, Max Verstappen grabbed his third straight pole position in 2024 while Carlos Sainz made an impressive return following his recent surgery with a brilliant second place on the grid. Sergio Perez will drop three grid positions for the Australian Grand Prix after receiving a penalty for impeding Nico Hulkenberg during qualifying. Lando Norris, Charles Leclerc and Oscar Piastri all moving up one place respectively.

Further down the grid, Danny Ricciardo looks a shell of his former self, this is just like his McLaren days.

Carlos Sainz wins the Australian Grand Prix!!

Delighted for Sainz, great race for him. Left himself plenty of time to make his stops comfortable, Leclerc had no answer. Thought Norris would've caught Leclerc, to be honest. Ferrari 1-2, a rarity these days!

Brilliant from Sainz.

Amazing to be back racing, nevermind winning the race, just two weeks after surgery.

Ferrari may live to regret letting him go at the end of the season.

The Verstappen retirement made it way more interesting. Great that Sainz got the win when he can't be fully fit. Seeing him getting out of the car at the end showed he was still sore. Rough day for the Mercedes.
