If anyone likes World War 2 history Bruce Crompton has just released his new series of "Amazing War Stories". They are brilliant and the way he tells the stories is excellent.

The first series of Serial (Baltimore) is the king of true crime pods

The Rewatchables

A film podcast, very good and with a great structure once you get used to the categories. Each episode is about one film. Over 200 episodes there currently.

Recently got into this podcast when away on a hike. I know late to party with it being around about 5 years.

Off Menu

Recently got into this podcast when away on a hike. I know late to party with it being around about 5 years.

Off Menu is good but it can depend on the guest too, so I'll pick and choose which ones I listen too.

I never understand why so many people take life so seriously... "I've never laughed at a single thing they ever said" etc. Most comedians have some funny stuff and some stuff that's a bit shit. Things can also be a little amusing and generally enjoyable without having to be laugh out loud hilarious.

A History of Rock Music in 500 Songs

Andrew Hickey charting the history of rock focussing on one song per episode, he's up to 1967 now and they're getting longer as he goes along.

Very informative and entertaining, with sound clips, would recommend.

Following Newstalk sports podcasts moving to a severely overpriced payment model, I've unsubscribed from all of them and it's only now I've seen how much they were clogging up my feed

Anyway, some fresh recommendations:
  • Call Jonathan Pie - a scripted comedy from the BBC which seems to skewer every possible angle of British society/politics...very funny imho, kind of like a sweary Alan Partridge
  • Sport Strangest Crimes - long running investigative series covering everything from Shergar to Marco Pantani
  • The Retrievals (from Serial) - another excellent investigation from the Serial team....tough listen at times though
  • I'm Not Here to Hurt You - started this yesterday, wasn't aware of the case so looking forward to it.

Been listening to this one when out on my morning runs.

Fascinating story. It's very good.

There are two books in the series and a third 'coming soon' and now there's a new-ish podcast

Probably one for the older crowd (myself included) it's all about the horrors of growing up in the 70s and 80s and things on tv, cinema, books etc that scarred you for life. Think Threads, Public Information Films, Dr Who….

I've been listening to 'Red Handed' recently and loving it. Lots of true crime cases.
