A major incident has been declared and homes have been evacuated in a village near an RAF base which hosts the United States Air Force.

Gloucestershire Police said residents in Whelford, near RAF Fairford, have been taken to a leisure centre while investigations continue.

Several men have been arrested on suspicion of offences under the Explosives Act, police said.

Five men detained over a potential terror plot near an RAF base used by US forces have been released on bail, counter-terrorism police have confirmed.

Assistant Commissioner Laurence Taylor confirmed on Monday afternoon that the men – all British nationals from London between the ages of 23 and 25 – had been released but that inquiries remain ongoing.

No 'viable explosives' were found in the vans searched at the scene, but police are keeping an 'open mind' as to who may be behind the suspected planned attack.

Mr Taylor told reporters outside New Scotland Yard: 'I can confirm that following extensive interviews and inquiries, the five men who were arrested are being released on police bail this afternoon.

'To be very clear, this does not mean that the investigation is over.

So reports now indicate that the 5 men arrested were up there to rob diesel at local farms, and had nothing to do with Iran or terrorism. Hence, they have been released on bail.

And Trump told the media the US were monitoring these men for a while and also said: "We got them". Lies just roll off his tongue.

This is bizarre, now today, the Prime Minister is saying he believes Iran did have some involvement in the incident.

Burnham said: "There are strong indications that Iran played a part in what happened over the weekend at RAF Fairford." He did not give further details. Tehran has strongly denied any involvement.

This is so bizarre, almost like a comedy sketch false flag.

No idea what's gone on, so I'll make something up. Iran blackmailed the 5 into being near the airbase with loads of petrol in the vans. The plan was for the vans to be close enough to a target on the base so an Iran operative inside the UK could fly a drone into the vans to blow them up, making them a bomb.

The lads decided to go against the plan, and backed out last minute, calling the cops themselves but the Iranian managed to get back in touch telling them they better go ahead. Woman spotted the activity and police finally intercepted. This is the reason for bail/no charges.
