The post raises a relevant topic but lacks detailed analysis or examples beyond Debenhams. Expanding on the reasons for the expected disappearances would enhance its value.

More cuts in the banking sector:

"The Co-operative Bank has said it will cut 350 jobs and close 18 branches due to the current "economic uncertainty" and the shift to online banking."

WH Smith won't last much longer. I'm surprised they are still on the go, to be honest. Never busy and overly expensive.
Wow, they are still around, eh. W. H. Smith left Canada in the nineties. Sold all their stores to Chapters, our big national chain (which then got acquired by Indigo, its closest competitor, leaving us with a monopoly on book shops and distribution save for the odd suriving independent).

David's Tea, which started here in Canada not that long ago selling premium loose leaf teas, has cut back to only 8 physical stores plus their online operations. They were already in trouble due to overextending themselves and COVID was the final blow. I switched to a local independent tea shop a while ago save for a couple blends that I can only get from David's. I wouldn't be surprised to see them shuttered or merge with someone else eventually.

Other companies at risk:

Accessorize/Monsoon (if they haven't gone already)
Last of the Debenhams stores

Harvey's (furniture)
Jack Wills
Acadia (Topshop, Dorothy Perkins)
Laura Ashley
Possibly H&M and Boots Opticians

Seems like the only retail clothes store doing well is Primark?

Our local WH Smith is nothing more than an expensive stationery store now. It used to sell books, music, video & board games but they've all gone now. Our post office is also located upstairs in their store and I think quite a few towns have a similar set-up. That is the only reason I can still see them functioning as a business.
M&S have just announced 7000 jobs going over the next 3 months. Not going to be much left on the high street soon
M&S are in the same boat as Debenhams - they have stretched their commercial estate too far and have realised they are struggling to compete with online retailers and places like Primark. I do think slot of the issues with M&S has been festering well before the coronavirus hit the UK.

Accessorize/Monsoon (if they haven't gone already) - Still Going for just now

Last of the Debenhams stores - Agreed, seeing as Mike Ashley is buying out other sports chain competitors rather than helping out what he already has in House of Fraser and Debenhams, but there are rumours that Next were interested in buying them.

Harvey's (furniture) - Surprised them and the likes of DFS are still going, to be honest

Jack Wills - Again part of the Mike Ashley "Couldn't give a toss" group

Acadia (Topshop, Dorothy Perkins) - Yep and the loss of quite a few old names off the high street, also Evans which has been overtaken by online larger clothing companies

Laura Ashley - they are doomed I think?

Possibly H&M and Boots Opticians - H&M have done reasonably well, but maybe not good enough. Not sure about Boots.

Pret A Manger is cutting more jobs and closing cafes too

Possibly H&M
They're not going anywhere, they're a huge global brand. Their owner is also Sweden's richest man.

Pizza Hut are now closing 29 of their restaurants. I doubt they will disappear - they are streamlining their business like many others.

I know cinema has been hit hard but I'm staggered to read Cineworld are now reporting a £1.3 BILLION loss!

It won't make them disappear but that is a big loss.

The TSB bank announced today that they will be cutting 900 jobs and closing one-third of their branches.

Fuller's pub chain are expected to cut 10% of their workforce due to people working from home impacting sales in their city centre pubs. That's around 500 more jobs.

Reading there that Philip Green's retail empire is on the brink with possibly of 13,000 people out of work.

Been on the cards for some time.

'Arcadia Group, which owns Topshop, Miss Selfridge, Dorothy Perkins, Wallis, Evans, Outfit and Burton, admitted it was "working on contingency options" to secure its future after a "material impact" on sales from the coronavirus pandemic.'

Feel sorry for the staff but this doesn't surprise me in the slightest, Philip Green has milked dry any company he's had involvement with. Horrible man.
