The post provides a comprehensive overview of Daniel Levy's tenure and the implications of his departure, though it could benefit from a more concise structure. Overall, it's relevant and valuable for fans keeping up with club news.

Daniel Levy has left his role as the chairman of Tottenham Hotspur after nearly 25 years in charge.

Levy's responsibilities will be taken over by Peter Charrington, who has been appointed to the newly-created role of non-executive chairman.

Levy joined Tottenham's board in December 2000 after ENIC purchased a 27 per cent stake in the club from Sir Alan Sugar. Spurs have been completely transformed during his reign.

The 63-year-old's biggest project during his time with the north London side was the design and creation of their 62,000 seater stadium, which was officially opened in April 2019 and a month later, Spurs reached the final of the Champions League which they lost to Liverpool.

The club routinely challenge in the top half of the table and won the Europa League earlier this year.

Levy has come under a lot of criticism from the fanbase, and last season, multiple protests were held outside of games about the way he has run the club.

"I am incredibly proud of the work I have done together with the executive team and all our employees," Levy said in a statement on the club's website. "We have built this club into a global heavyweight competing at the highest level.

"More than that, we have built a community. I was lucky enough to work with some of the greatest people in this sport, from the team at Lilywhite House and Hotspur Way to all the players and managers over the years.

"I wish to thank all the fans that have supported me over the years. It hasn't always been an easy journey but significant progress has been made. I will continue to support this club passionately."

Levy's departure will also raise questions about the long-term future of Tottenham's ownership. When Spurs released their accounts for the 2022-23 season in April 2024, Levy revealed that he had spoken to "prospective investors" about selling a stake in the club.

This is a shock that I don't think anyone saw coming and a seismic development for Tottenham.

From the BBC Sport website, "Who and What is Behind Levy's Decision"
BBC Sport has been told that there is a sense from the Lewis family that success on the pitch has not been consistent enough over the years of Levy's reign.

Spurs have won two trophies during his 25 years at Spurs, the first being the League Cup in 2008.

The Lewis family are aware of some of the supporter discontent – much of it directed at Levy - that has engulfed the club in recent years.

Tavistock figurehead Joe Lewis, 88, is understood to have had a peripheral role in the decision for Levy to leave his post.

It is understood that younger generations of the family – Vivienne and Charlie, who are Joe's children – have been key in making the decision.

Vivienne has been particularly visible at Spurs in recent months. Nick Beucher - the grandson-in-law of Joe Lewis - has also taken a greater involvement.

BBC Sport understands all the hierarchical changes over the past few months have led to today's announcement.

It is understood the role of executive chairman will be removed with a view to modernising the board's structure.

The Lewis family have been at the forefront of those changes, including the decision regarding Levy.

Levy will remain a shareholder of Enic but will cease to have any direct involvement with the club.

The share structure of Enic will remain unchanged.

The Lewis' initiated a thorough external review of Tottenham's operation earlier this year, and well-placed sources told BBC Sport that followed a number of concerns from the Tavistock Group.

The financial operation of the club was among the areas reviewed.

It is also understood the ownership made a significant investment into the club over the past few months which has helped Spurs in the transfer market.

The review also resulted in the aforementioned board changes, including the appointments of Harrington and Venkatesham.

For all his flaws, Levy cared about the club and ran it sensibly. The fans should be careful what they wish for; some will be happy, others indifferent. If the club is sold, it will likely be to a US-led consortium or a state-funded group.
