The post clearly conveys the verdict and relevant details of the trial, but could benefit from additional context regarding the implications or reactions to the verdict.

Former Minneapolis police officer Derek Chauvin was tonight found guilty of murder and manslaughter over the death of George Floyd

The jury, made up of six white people and six black or multi-racial people, deliberated for 10 hours over parts of two days.

Chauvin was found guilty on all charges.

They were second-degree unintentional murder, third-degree murder and second-degree manslaughter.

Chauvin's face was obscured by a Covid-19 mask, and little reaction could be seen beyond his eyes darting around the courtroom as the jury delivered its verdict.

Seems more of a manslaughter. Will be interesting to see if they appeal.

Will be interesting to see if this gets to the supreme court - wouldn't every manslaughter charge would also be second degree murder?

The US version of murder is massively different to ours. He got manslaughter too though.

Derek Chauvin demands new trial as juror defends attending rally wearing 'get off our necks' t-shirt

A photo of one juror has surfaced from before the trial of him wearing a t-shirt about police brutality at a rally he says was in DC. He answered no on the questionnaire when asked if he had attended any anti-police brutality protests prior to the trial.

He claims he doesn't remember wearing the t-shirt but doesn't deny it is him in the photo.

Sentenced to 22 1/2 years

The US white ex-police officer convicted of murdering African-American man George Floyd in Minneapolis in May 2020 has been sentenced to 22 years and six months in jail.

The judge said Derek Chauvin's sentence was based "on your abuse of a position of trust and authority, and also the particular cruelty shown" to Mr Floyd.

Mr Floyd, 48, died after Chauvin knelt on his neck for nine minutes.

His murder caused global protests against racism and police brutality.

Chauvin, 45, was convicted of second-degree murder and other charges last month. During his trial, his lawyer described the killing as "an error made in good faith".
