Actress Diana Rigg, famous for roles including Emma Peel in TV series The Avengers and Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones, has died at the age of 82.

Diana Rigg's daughter, actress Rachael Stirling confirmed the news of her passing. In a statement, she said: "My Beloved Ma died peacefully in her sleep, early this morning at home, surrounded by family.

"She died of cancer diagnosed in March and spent her last months joyfully reflecting on her extraordinary life, full of love, laughter and a deep pride in her profession. I will miss her beyond words".

She was a terrific actress. Great in Game of Thrones latterly. I remember her being fantastically sinister in a late 80s BBC drama called Mother Love.

I remember her chiefly from Mother Love and On Her Majesty's Secret Service, but have seen her in other things, including some of her Avengers episodes. Marvellous actress.

Ah really sad.

What a wonderful and sassy actress - classy, adventurous, a fierce intellect and wit. A really original actress who was easily the best, most complex Bond girl and defined the image of the 1960s cool as Mrs Emma Peel in The Avengers.

She was absolutely brilliant as Olenna Tyrell in Game of Thrones.

Sad news. She was incredibly talented and beautiful in her day, I just watched her in the new version of All Creatures Great and Small the other day.

I agree, she was brilliant in Game of Thrones and stole every scene she was in.

Really sad, she was lovely.

She was a class act at Stirling University graduations where she was chancellor. I had the privilege of being conferred with my degree by her, which entailed being doffed on the head with an academic hat she held.
