Exodus is a retro galaxy colonization strategy game. In this re-release from a 1990s game with several enhancements and new features, you arrive at a foreign galaxy populated with alien empires and have to colonize planets, build up their surfaces, and defend them against alien computer enemies. There are turn based tactical battles as well as diplomacy and spy operations. You can hire officers for different fields, invest in scientific research to yield new inventions, and equip your flagship as well as expand your fleet of warships, trahsporters, and scouts. There are different goals to pick at the beginning of the game as well as several difficulty levels and other configuration options.

It is the year 3011. Civilization has failed, and Earth is just a barren wasteland. But a few bosses of once mighty corporations have built a starship to bring them to a new galaxy where habitable planets were discovered. A group of homeless rebels gains access to the secret codes, steals the ship, and travels to the new galaxy. Without much knowledge or resources, they have to start new, claim a new planet for mankind, and begin to build a galactic empire, while other inhabitants of the new galaxy will try to achieve the same.

Drew Karpyshyn, the narrative director of Exodus and a former key figure at BioWare, has shared insights into how player choices will significantly influence the game's ending and the fates of various characters.

In a recent discussion, Karpyshyn highlighted that the decisions players make will not only affect the relationships with companions but also determine who remains in the party by the conclusion of the game. He stated, "Depending on choices you make, by the end of the game, you might not have every companion with you that you started with." This suggests a dynamic narrative where relationships evolve based on player interactions, reminiscent of the relationship systems in Mass Effect.

Karpyshyn elaborated on the importance of making these relationships feel authentic, noting that players' choices will bring some companions closer while potentially alienating others. He hinted at the complexity of these interactions, mentioning that companions may face conflicts regarding the player's decisions, which could lead to significant changes in their storylines.

Moreover, the game will feature optional content that can unlock or lock certain events, further altering the course of the narrative and the relationships within the game. This could lead to scenarios where companions might leave the party entirely, depending on their affinity towards the player and the challenges they encounter throughout the story.
