I finally saw this yesterday. God, it was awful. It had a bad script, plot, acting, pacing/editing, and was very disjointed. Mescal was poor, but his lines were also very poor. I never cared about any of the characters.

Giving it 2 stars is being generous.

It wasn't as bad as I'd expected it to be with comments from here, actually I wasn't going to watch it at all, but run out of stuff, so stuck it on.

Yes, it's daft, and Denzil plays a Roman Denzil, the lead was ok, but couldn't fill Crowe's shoes, also Pedro wasn't at his best. The more I watched, the more I wished I had stuck the Gladiator original on.

As a standalone movie, 3/5. But if you've seen the original, 2/5.
