The post presents a personal opinion but lacks depth and supporting arguments, making it feel low-effort. It could benefit from additional context and detail on the implications of identity cards.

There is a view that identity cards would reduce the pull factor for immigrants and reduce the size of the black economy.

I would have no objection to having to have one.

Don't have a strong opinion either way.

But if we do, they have to be free to all.

I'm not particularly fussed about having one either way but I've two forms of photo ID readily available which I've paid a few hundred quid for. I wouldn't be paying for another one

I do think they should introduce them but the last time they talked about identity cards the costs were apparently astronomical to ensure everyone had one.

Those who have a passport and/or driving licence shouldn't then be forced to get a 3rd one (especially if they're not free)

I'm not arsed about having one in principle, but I do object to having to pay for one given I've already forked out for a passport and driving licence

If they keep the requirement for ID to vote then they should produce ID cards.

No problem with ID cards. Should be a law to carry photo ID and produce it when asked for any reason by a police officer, security services and/or government official etc

Happily have one, it's the norm in lots of countries in Europe - France, Spain etc

It wouldn't need to be a physical card. Australia has a Digital ID which is phone based: https://www.digitalidentity.gov.au/

With more government services, legal contracts and financial transactions happening online it seems reasonable that there should be secure and easy to use way of confirming your identity.

I used to be against them, but have softened my view to not arsed either way.

Just renewed my driving license from old pink paper type to CC type, and that seems sufficient for ID purposes to me.
