Patriotism is a complex and multifaceted concept that can be interpreted in various ways. While it can be a positive force that unites people and fosters a sense of belonging, it can also be a negative force that leads to exclusion, intolerance, and aggression. The line between healthy and toxic patriotism is often blurred, and it depends on the context, the values, and the actions associated with it

Without quoting any whataboutery, is the patriotic (often violent) movement ultimately toxic for modern Britain?

Patriotism isn't toxic. Disguising hatred and racism under the banner of patriotism is toxic and in fairness most see it immediately for what it is.

Patriotism is fine. We all need to belong to someone or something. Or at least feel we do, which is sometimes better, because we can believe the illusion.

Where it gets perverted is when it becomes nationalism (or even more dangerous: based on religion).
