As someone who has only took a casual interest in cycling over the years, can someone answer me something. Armstrong has rightfully been hammered for what he did, but how does it differ to the others who cheated? Am I right in thinking Alberto Contador was caught cheating and was back after a couple years racing again?
Armstrong and Contador have an eerily similar story but I think the biggest difference between the 2 - USADA actively set out to catch Armstrong, Spanish Anti-Doping actively set out to protect Contador (and every other Spanish doper or doper with a connection to Spain)

I'm certainly not a fan of the way the Spanish federation went out of their way to defend the likes of Contador and many others...but I think there is a difference between some dopers and the likes of Armstrong, who in the words of Tygart "ran the most sophisticated, professionalised and successful doping programme that the sport has ever seen"

His links to Verbruggen and the clear bribery that went on also, to me mean he should have been treated differently to other cheats.

BTW I'd like to see all former dopers blocked from future involvement in the sport

Apart from that there was the almost sociopathic behaviour of him and his cronies towards the likes of Andreu, Lemond and O'Reilly

Just watched the two episodes on BBC iPlayer and I'd really recommend it to anyone who loves the Tour de France or is interested in the psychology of winning at all costs. Compelling stuff.

Yeah, I really enjoyed it. Ruthless competitor and admits he is a bit of a kernt!

C Crabtree, I merged your thread with the one we already had in the Sports forum.

Stop At Nothing is a far more revealing documentary into how badly he behaved and how he treated those around him. I got the feeling he was controlling the narrative in the Storyville documentaries.
