Lisbeth Salander Standalone TV Series in the Works at Amazon

Amazon is developing a series centered on Lisbeth Salander, the character created by Stieg Larsson for the so-called Millenium books.

The project, which is currently titled "The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo," will not be a sequel or continuation of the story from the books or the films into which they were adapted. It will instead take Salander and place her in today's world with a wholly new setting, new characters, and a new story.

Battlestar Galactica reboot again

The new Battlestar Galactica comes from Mr Robot and Homecoming exec producer Sam Esmail, who struck a big overall deal with NBCU's Universal Content Productions last year. It is produced by Esmail Corp and UCP, with Esmail and Chad Hamilton also exec producing.

Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist Renewed

NBC is giving Zoey's Extraordinary Playlist fans something to sing about: The network has renewed the musical dramedy for Season 2, TVLine has learned.

Across its 12-episode freshman run, Zoey's Playlist averaged just over a 0.4 demo rating and nearly 2 million total viewers (in Live+Same Day numbers). With Live+7 DVR playback factored in, those tallies swelled to 0.7 and 3.1 million. With its May 3 season finale, Zoey's Playlist equaled its largest audience since March 1 and matched its best rating since Feb. 23.

A Spy Among Friends: Kim Philby and the Great Betrayal

Damian Lewis (Billions) and Dominic West (The Affair) are in talks to star in and executive-produce an adaptation of the novel A Spy Among Friends: Kim Philby and the Great Betrayal, for Spectrum Originals and UK streamer BritBox, our sister site Deadline reports.

A six-episode Cold War espionage thriller based on Ben Macintyre's book, A Spy Among Friends "follows the defection of a notorious British intelligence officer and KGB double agent Kim Philby (played by West) through the lens of his complex relationship with MI6 colleague and close friend Nicholas Elliott (Lewis). The show examines espionage through their friendship, the fallout of which affects East-West relations to this day."

The series, adapted by Homeland EP Alexander Cary, is tentatively slated to premiere in fall 2021.

Elisabeth Moss is about to make a killing: The Emmy winner will star as infamous Texas killer Candy Montgomery in an upcoming limited series, TVLine has learned.

The limited series, tentatively titled Candy, is a UCP production (a division of Universal Studio Group) and is being shopped to premium cable and streaming platforms. Moss plays Candy Montgomery, a Texas housewife in 1980 who "seemingly had it all — a loving husband with a good job, a daughter and a son, a nice house in the brand new suburbs — so why did she kill her friend from church with an axe?" the official description asks.

Live-action Resident Evil show coming to Netflix

The Netflix series will tell its new story across two timelines. In the first, 14-year-old sisters Jade and Billie Wesker are moved to New Raccoon City. A manufactured, corporate town, forced on them right as adolescence is in full swing. But the more time they spend there, the more they come to realize that the town is more than it seems and their father may be concealing dark secrets. Secrets that could destroy the world. The second, more than a decade into the future sees less than 15 million people left on Earth. And more than 6 billion monsters — people and animals infected with the T-virus. Jade, now 30, struggles to survive in this new world, while the secrets from her past — about her sister, her father and herself — continue to haunt her.

Nick Fury

Samuel L. Jackson to Star in Nick Fury Series in Works at Disney+

Samuel L. Jackson could be strapping on that eyepatch for a while longer: Disney+ is reportedly developing a series centered on Jackson's MCU character, Nick Fury, with Jackson on board to reprise the role.

As sources told our sister publication Variety, Kyle Bradstreet (Mr. Robot, Berlin Station) will write and executive-produce the project. Plot details, however, are currently being kept under wraps, and Disney+ has not commented on Variety's report.

Jackson made his first appearance as S.H.I.E.L.D. leader Nick Fury in 2008's Iron Man, which served as the inaugural film in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. He has since popped up in numerous Marvel movies, including The Avengers (in which Fury is responsible for gathering the titular group of superheroes), Captain Marvel (which found Fury teaming up with Brie Larson's title character) and, most recently, the 2019 flick Spider-Man: Far From Home.

The character has also jumped to the small screen before, by way of two Season 1 episodes of Marvel's Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D.

Disney+'s potential Nick Fury series is one of several Marvel projects on the streamer's slate, along with WandaVision, premiering in late 2020 (watch trailer); The Falcon and the Winter Soldier, delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic; Loki, starring Tom Hiddleston; and She-Hulk, which recently cast Orphan Black's Tatiana Maslany in the title role.

GLOW cancelled By Netflix, won't proceed with the fourth and final season due to COVID-19

COVID has killed actual humans. It's a national tragedy and should be our focus. COVID also apparently took down our show, series creators Liz Flahive and Carly Mensch said in a statement to Deadline. Netflix has decided not to finish filming the final season of GLOW. We were handed the creative freedom to make a complicated comedy about women and tell their stories. And wrestle. And now that's gone. There's a lot of shitty things happening in the world that are much bigger than this right now. But it still sucks that we don't get to see these 15 women in a frame together again.

The Game of Thrones prequel series House of the Dragon has cast Paddy Considine.
