"The Milkman" is another one I thought was rubbish. In opening few pages it tells you what happens and that's it for the whole book.

The Catcher in the Rye by JD Salinger - A tedious read about a whiny teenager.
I never understood the attraction to The Catcher in the RyeAnother vote for Catcher in the Rye. I know it's not overly long but if I hadn't been on a long train journey at the time of reading I'd never have finished it.
I agree, like I said before, it is just a whiny teenager bitching about everyday things that don't really matter - I was in my mid 20's when I read it and didn't get the hype at all, found it boring - I do wonder though if I had read it as a teenager it might have been one of the greatest books I'd ever read, I might have felt that the author really understands me because most of us were whiny little bitches when we were teenagers!I never understood the attraction to The Catcher in the Rye
