When it comes to training for performance or aesthetics, nutrition is often framed through the lens of weight loss. But for many athletes - and plenty of people in our own community - the real challenge isn't cutting calories, it's eating enough of the right things to actually build muscle.

Muscle gain requires a specific nutritional strategy: not just "more protein," but a deliberate caloric surplus, balanced macronutrients, diverse protein sources, and attention to things like hydration and leucine intake. Without extra calories, the body won't have the energy to support new muscle tissue. Without enough carbohydrates, training quality and recovery can dip. And without healthy fats, overall health and hormone balance can take a hit.

It's also important to mix protein sources rather than relying solely on one type. Plant proteins can complement animal proteins well, and both contribute to muscle synthesis. Supplements can help, but they're not a magic fix—hydration and overall diet quality matter just as much.

I'd love to know how everyone here approaches muscle gain.

Do you track calories? Do you struggle with eating enough? Have you found carbs make a noticeable difference to your performance? What kind of protein choices work best for you?

Let's dive in and compare strategies.
