I came across My Mate Bought a Toaster because of Rufus Sewell and have enjoyed other episodes. The guest's Amazon orders are the jumping‐off point for a discussion of their interests. Quite amusing and something that isn't sport or crime...

Heavyweight. This is basically an improved version of Mystery Show, if you've heard that, with the brilliantly deadpan funny Jonathan Goldstein helping people reconcile something unresolved from their past. 'Scott' and 'Gregor' are a couple of standout gateway episodes.

I've linked both podcasts below.

Heavyweight is absolutely brilliant. I've listened to most of them multiple times.

Is Mystery Show worth checking out? Feel like so much of what makes Heavyweight great is Jonathan himself.

When I had eye surgery this past winter (cataract removal), I listened to podcasts for a few days after each eye was done to give them some recovery time before I resumed staring at screens. My new favorite is The Ancients, part of the History Hit family of podcasts. Host is a guy named Tristan Hughes with a background in classics or history (forget which) and he brings on academics with relevant experience for each episode, often ones with recent publications on the episode's topic. I have a B.A. in Classics myself so it's kind of going back to school for me, but a lot more fun than writing exams and declining Latin verbs.

(But they don't just do Classical history. They've done some Asian history and even prehistory, e.g. a recent episode on the origins of the dinosaurs)

Yeah, Mystery Show is good. Starlee Kine the host has her own quirky charm and is a particularly great interviewer. She once made the single greatest celebrity interview ever with Phil Collins on a This American Life show (episode called Break Up).

I'd start with Belt Buckle, which I think is one of the best podcast episodes of all time. Continue with Source Code or Britney if you like it and then listen to the last three if you're still hooked.

There's a very interesting BBC4 podcast called Things Fell Apart. It's written and presented by Jon Ronson.

It's looking at the culture wars but it looks at them in previous generations and the earlier iterations of similar themes we see today.

Really worth a listen.

I listened to the "Boy in Photo" episode of Reply All today. Really one of the best individual episodes of any podcast I've listened to. What a rollercoaster.

And a link to the episode.....
