The post presents a relatable personal experience regarding renting versus buying, which adds value to the discussion. However, it could benefit from more specific questions or points for community engagement.

Are you renting, or have you bought your home?

I was previously a joint homeowner, but I'm being bought out following separation. The plan was to rent short-term and look for somewhere to buy, but the flat where I am is so nice I'm not particularly in a rush to move out! Renting also has its perks, if anything goes wrong it falls on the landlord / estate agent to sort it or reimburse.

When I bought my home, the cost was less than rent, so it made sense to buy.

If someone wanted advice before making a decision to rent or own, normally I would have always said the answer would be "own" no questions asked. However, I think the property market is a whole different ballgame now and renting certainly has its advantages and built-in protections

We rent, can't afford to buy - wouldn't even if we could. I like the flexibility and convenience of rental.

Bought. I sometimes wish I had the flexibility of rented accommodation though.
