Overview:
Tapestry is a pop album by singer-songwriter Carole King, released in 1971 on Ode Records. It is one of the best-selling albums of all-time, with over 25 million copies sold worldwide In the U.S., it has been certified diamond by the RIAA with more than 10 million copies sold. It received four Grammy Awards in 1972, including Album of the Year. The lead single from the album, "It's Too Late"/"I Feel The Earth Move" was number 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 for five weeks. In 2003, Tapestry was ranked number 36 on Rolling Stone magazine's list of the 500 greatest albums of all time.
King wrote or co-wrote all of the songs on the album, several of which had already been hits for other artists such as Aretha Franklin's "(You Make Me Feel Like) A Natural Woman" (in 1967) and The Shirelles' "Will You Love Me Tomorrow" (in 1960). Three songs were co-written with King's ex-husband Gerry Goffin. James Taylor, who encouraged King to sing her own songs, and who also played on Tapestry, would have a #1 hit with "You've Got a Friend." Two songs were co-written with Toni Stern: "It's Too Late" and "Where You Lead".

Such a good album to chill out to.

You just have to look at the list of stuff she wrote alone or with Gerry Goffin to realise what a tremendous songwriter she was

Yeah, Carole King (both with and without Gerry Goffin) was amazing. I first came across her work in the TV series The Monkees, for whom she and Gerry wrote a number of songs, including "Pleasant Valley Sunday", a favorite of mine. Didn't realize who the writer was until much later (hey, I was like 10 or 12 and watching them after school with a buddy) and quickly became a fan of her work in general.

On my first job, managing a library's systems, another worker in the same room was a fan and had a copy of Tapestry that was playing on the room stereo (her boombox) pretty regularly.

The musical Beautiful is a decent watch if you're a fan.

I would highly recommend "Live at the Troubadour" where she and James Taylor go through some of their shared catalogue. There's a wonderful chemistry between them.

It's a classic. It's Too Late is one of the best songs ever written in my opinion. The amount of famous songs she wrote for other people is really impressive as well.

Her and James Taylor sound good together

Great album. Love the production, or lack of. Has a raw, almost live feel to it. In one of the songs, you hear her voice almost crack.

FYI, she's being inducted into the R&R hall of fame this year. Along with Kate Bush

Some records are just a cut above all others. Tapestry is one of them.

I don't think you necessarily need to be a fan of the genre or artist to appreciate the genius of this album.
