Best know for playing Captain von Trapp in The Sound of Music and more recently Harlan Thrombey in Knives Out, Christopher Plummer became the oldest actor to receive an Oscar nominee for his role as J. Paul Getty in All the Money in World in 2017.

His family has confirmed that he passed away peacefully at his home in Connecticut with his wife of 53 years by his side.

Brought gravitas to his role as Klingon General Chang in ST: The Undiscovered Country.

And was already the oldest actor to win one by that point, Best Supporting Actor for Beginners in 2010. He also had some Tonys, the Governor General's award for performing arts (a big one here in Canada), and the Order of Canada.

He was an amazing actor and that famous role in Sound of Music really does not do him justice. He began his career not far from where I live, at the Stratford Festival in Stratford, Ontario, and returned there periodically throughout his career to do a variety of Shakespearean roles (I think his last appearance there was to do Lear).

And, yes, he was memorable as General Chang. Probably the second best Trek movie villain after Montalban as Khan. He and Shatner actually knew each other from their early days at Stratford so it was a reunion for them.

Still acting till the end. What a legend. Great in so many films.

He definitely left his mark on the film world.

My favourite role of his was the Shakespeare quoting General Chang in Star Trek VI

He was brilliant when he played the part of Commodus in The Fall of the Roman Empire.

For some reason I always thought he was English

I'll second this but would reverse it, in my mind they really didn't give Montalban as deserving material. Not his fault though. Plummer played his Chang to the hilt and had more to work with, material-wise.

One of the great character actors and 91 isn't a bad innings. He had countless outstanding roles, but the only one that always pops into my head when I think of him is the RAF Squadron Leader in 'The Battle of Britain'.

He was brilliant as the Duke of Wellington in Waterloo. Played the role with just the right amount of contemptuous arrogance and cynicism. More Wellington than Wellington.
