The Killer (2023) Movie Thread

Good to see David Fincher back. The Zodiac and Gone Girl director makes his return to the thriller genre with an adaptation of Alexis Nolent's French graphic novel series, scripted by Seven writer Andrew Kevin Walker.

Michael Fassbender stars as an unnamed killer who finds his life unravelling after a near miss, battling both his employers and his own psyche.

It drops on Netflix in November, after a brief cinema run in October.

The trailer doesn't inspire confidence, but I like Fassbender and it's Fincher so...

Early reviews are very mixed on this from what I've seen; the main criticism seems to revolve around the fact this "just" one of Fincher's dalliances mainstream thriller/entertainment and not one of his prestige works.

Watched this last night and I found the actual film to be really boring. Disappointed but not surprised as the trailer didn't really do it for me.

Not watched this yet but going by what I've read if it wasn't for Fincher the film wouldn't be on my radar.

I thought it was lacklustre, dull and by the numbers. Fassbender's assassin character was impossible for me to care about.

The whole thing struck me as a poor man's John Wick/Equaliser/Jason Bourne less the redeeming characteristics of those films.

It was fine. Brilliantly made, but far from Fincher's best work. Felt a bit pointless, which is surprising given it's been a passion project for Fincher for a long time.

I quite enjoyed it but there was far too much exposition, which is rarely, if ever, a good sign. It also seemed to run out of plot a third of the way in. And the last bit made no sense to me.
