Overview:
The Tortured Poets Department is the eleventh studio album by the American singer-songwriter Taylor Swift. Released on April 19, 2024, via Republic Records, the album was written and produced by Swift, Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner. Swift announced the album at the 66th Annual Grammy Awards on February 4, 2024, after winning Best Pop Vocal Album for her tenth studio album, Midnights (2022).

Swift conceived The Tortured Poets Department shortly after finishing work on Midnights and continued developing the former during the Eras Tour (2023–2024), her ongoing sixth concert tour. Self-described as her "lifeline" album, The Tortured Poets Department was perceived by Swift as a culmination of imperative songwriting. The album's music is a mix of subtle pop rock, synth-pop stylings and folk elements, mostly driven by the guitar and piano. The subject matter delves into Swift's psyche, introspecting on her public and private lives. Critics have described the album as a cathartic and self-conscious project, blending sorrow and humor.

Issued as a double album, the standard volume of The Tortured Poets Department consists of sixteen songs, featuring collaborations with the American rapper Post Malone and the English indie rock band Florence and the Machine. The second volume, subtitled The Anthology, was surprise-released two hours after the standard volume and contains fifteen additional songs. "Fortnight", featuring Malone, was named the album's lead single.

31 songs! She's relentless.

Only heard the first few, enjoying it so far. Probably not a top 5 album but solid nonetheless.

Solid album. However, some of the lyrics are questionable.

1989 & Folklore remain my favourites.

On first listen, it's disappointingly generic for the most part but Down Bad and The Smallest Man In The World are good, and loml is up there with her best work. Nothing else jumped out at me.

This one will probably grow on me once I delve into the lyrics. First time listening to 30 odd songs is just overwhelming.

Really liking the new album. Probably my third favourite of hers, behind Folklore and Evermore. Second half of the album is stronger than the first, but I like the standard album quite well. It's a grower, quite a few songs I didn't care much for on first listen are getting up there.

She makes good pop music. I have to say that the obsessive nature of her by a large swathe of fans is wild, I can't remember an icon having this kind of craze before.

I love how unhinged this is. Basically telling the toxic part of her fanbase to feck off. It's her life. Let her live it.

Donna Collaborator
Its not her best effort. It is ok but an album this long needs different sounds to break it up and separate the tracks from each other as currently it is a slog and alot of the tracks do sound similar.

Biggest opening week sales for an album in 7 years

This is her 12th number 1 album in the UK, meaning she now has the joint most number 1 albums for a female artist alongside Madonna
