Nine Princes in Amber (1970) - Roger Zelazny

It's the first book in a rather old fantasy series (Chronicles of Amber) that I never got around to reading back in the day when I was reading a lot of SF/F. 10 novels total plus a short story collection but you could probably pack about 3 Amber novels into a single A Song of Ice & Fire novel.

The Lost Man by Jane Harper. Brilliant stuff.

I was worried it was going to be a retread of her earlier book The Dry but despite sharing many of the same elements (outback, dead body, family secrets) but it's a unique, character-driven book. Well worth a read.

Started "Girl, Woman, Other" yesterday and I haven't had a book make my stop and think so much in such a short space of time. Loving it so far.

Just started Four Winds by Kristin Hannah. Life in 1930's dustbowl Texas. Enjoying it!

I Am Pilgrim.

Quite a shocking opening chapter but am loving it so far.

The Bone Code by Kathy Reichs

This is the most recent book in the Temperance Brennan series and it is a good read. However, as with A Conspiracy of Bones, I feel that the fast pace that Reichs was renowned for is not there anymore to the same extent as was in the first 20 novels in this series.

I've just started Tim Marshall's The Power of Geography, a follow up to his excellent geopolitical book Prisoners of Geography. I'm only four or five chapters in and so far it's just as good and interesting as the first book.

Boys Don't Cry by Fiona Scarlett.

Just read it in one sitting, couldn't put it down.

It will break your heart, a beautifully written book.

The Crusades: The War for the Holy Land by Thomas Asbridge

This book chronicles all of the crusades launched by popes throughout the eleventh, twelfth and thirteenth centuries. The book takes a look at the crusades and jihad from both a Christian and Muslim perspective. The author also looks at how Islamic fundamentalists such as Bin Laden has twisted the history of the crusades to justify terrorist attacks in the West.

Just read The Nothing Man, Catherine Ryan Howard. Not my normal type of read but my wife recommended it and I absolutely loved it.

A serial killer-type story set mainly in Cork, the plotting and the structure were great (multiple time periods and POVs, story-within-a-story, potentially unreliable narrator), but it was the attention to and correctness of detail that nailed it for me.
