Meta is launching its new app today to rival Twitter, how do they come up with stupide names?

Facebook owner Meta is launching its new app to rival Twitter and says it will go live on Thursday.

The app, which is called Threads and is available for pre-order on the Apple App Store, will be linked to Instagram.

Screengrabs show a dashboard that looks similar to Twitter. Meta describes Threads as a "text based conversation app".

The move is the latest in a rivalry between Meta boss Mark Zuckerberg and Twitter owner Elon Musk.

Very slick. Needs a few more features it's day one and at least they'll be working hard to make the app better and add features rather than working hard to completely enshitten it as Musk is doing with Twitter.

Hadn't realised you need an Insta account to join it. They need to change that asap if they really want mass adoption.

Installed Threads to have a look. Pretty seamless using my Instagram account. Looks like a Twitter clone, or a third-party app for Twitter.

Musk has gone off the rails with Twitter, he should stick to cars and spaceships, not people, it doesn't suit him.

Definitely a valid competitor considering the reach Instagram has.

Elon Musk is threatening to sue Meta for creating a copycat application

In a letter to CEO Mark Zuckerberg, a lawyer from Twitter expressed the company's concerns with Meta's latest app "Threads" threatening to sue.

Elon Musk tweeted in light of these alleged messages and lawsuit rumors stating "Competition is fine, cheating is not".

In the letter, Twitter's attorney reported the company "has serious concerns that Meta Platforms (Meta) has engaged in systematic, willful and unlawful misappropriation of Twitter's trade secrets and other intellectual property".

Alex Spiro, the attorney who drafted the letter, continued on to say that Twitter intends to enforce its intellectual property rights and demands the stoppage of any Twitter trade secrets or confidential information.

One megalomaniac billionaire on a crusade to save us all from another megalomaniac by billionaire. I'm sure this new platform will attract all the same obsessives and idiots that twitter did/does.

Meta have realised that Twitter is in a bad position and have decided to try and take their business. It's deliberately not trying to be too different.
