UK Bans Huawei From 5G Network After Hours

It looks like Huawei won't be allowed to work on our 5G network after all, despite their extensive work already on our other networks. Is it the right move or Western paranoia? Would the Chinese state really ask Huawei to create back doors so it orders our network turned off if there were any serious squabbles? I was surprised to learn that Singapore, despite being so close to China, is freezing Huawei out of its 5G network.

I haven't really read much into the whole Huawei thing, but there must be some compelling evidence somewhere for them to have been banned from so many countries' future infrastructure..

Once any Chinese company gets to a certain size it effectively becomes an arm of the state, doing its bidding. Otherwise, it wouldn't be allowed to exist. Chinese state interference in technology sold abroad is a near-certainty. Of course, similar espionage is carried out by every country that can afford to.

The UK actually has a pretty good system for overseeing Huawei's activities in the UK. At the moment, the UK's response seems overblown and driven by US concerns/orders/blackmail. The potential for harm is certainly there, however.

Their code has been analysed by pretty much every government and private security out there and not one back door found. What you may find is that if there some political issue then you may very well find support hard to come by.

It's obvious that these decisions are politically motivated and the end result is that us consumers will end up paying more.

I've not looked into the Huawei situation much but I do see some irony in America pushing the security threat when the American government has been caught tapping other countries phones in the past and two of their largest companies - Facebook and Google have very questionable practices when it comes to security and data.

I would agree this is more politically motivated than anything else.

With China introducing the new national security law in Hong Kong which completely voided the Sino-British joint declaration, that stated Hong Kong's existing capitalist system and way of life would be unchanged for 50 years until 2047 didn't help the UK/China relationship.

And with Trump blowing hot air into Johnson's ear, it was inevitable.
