The post provides an interesting perspective on the Assassin's Creed series, but it lacks clear structure and depth in its exploration of the topic. More focus on potential game mechanics or storyline elements would enhance its relevance and value to the community.

We already know that the Assassin's Creed timeline includes the Second World War, even if it hasn't ever directly explored it. As the story goes, the shady Templar organisation triggered the war in order to form a new world government. However, while you might think Adolf Hitler was the Templar chief in this instance, you'd actually be sorely mistaken.

According to the Assassin's Creed history, Winston Churchill, Joseph Stalin, Franklin D. Roosevelt, and Adolf Hitler were all 'Templar puppets', with the latter two leaders claiming Pieces of Eden. These artefacts are infamous in the Assassin's Creed world, being as they are the pre-historic devices that boast unimaginable power. Apparently, the original plan was to murder Hitler's body double in the depths of his Fuhrerbunker, and whisk the true Adolf Hitler away to destinations unknown.

Fortunately, the Assassins were one step ahead, and they elimited Hitler as he evacuated his bunker, thus bringing about a decisive end to the war. Furthermore, Roosevelt's untimely death shut down the Templar operations across the Atlantic, and both Pieces of Eden subsequently disappeared from existence.

In 2018, an Assassin's Creed comic series titled Conspiracies was launched, featuring a story set entirely in World War II. So, we already have an Assassin that is canonically confirmed as having existed during that era — the groundwork is well and truly laid.

But would it actually work?

It can be argued that Assassin's Creed only works when the environment is old. If you were to introduce automatic weaponry, cars, planes, trains, and all manner of more modern mechanisms, it might ruin what makes Assassin's Creed Assassin's Creed. If the protagonist were to be equipped with the ability to wield submachine guns and drive cars around the wide, open map, it'd be more of a Grand Theft Auto-esque title than a historic epic like Assassin's Creed.

All of a sudden, you'd have a Saboteur-cum-Mafia-cum-GTA title, rather than a true-to-life, authenic Assassin's Creed experience. Furthermore, if you fought to only equip your protagonist with the traditional tools of the Assassins' trade, they'd be severely underpowered and ineffective against the might of the German forces. Ultimately, you'd need to build a faster, more high-octane title.

Let's run some hypothetical scenarios, okay?

You're an Allied pilot who is downed behind enemy lines, and you spend the first few hours on the run from the German military forces, who are scouring the French countryside, baying for your blood. You're saved by a mysterious, hooded figure in the middle of a forest clearing, and in return, you swear to fight by their side and help liberate their country.

Alternatively:

You're an SOE spy, German by birth, dropped into the outskirts of Berlin in the dead of night. Your objective: to break down the Nazi regime from the inside-out, and ultimately, assassinate Hitler. It's stealthier than ever, as you're truly a lone wolf, stranded in-country without any real back-up. This isn't story of liberation, but a tale of tactical terror, as the Blade in the Crowd stalks the streets of Berlin.

It will probably never happen but would you play an Assassin's Creed game set during World War 2?

Yes, I would but only if it was done correctly. Assassin's Creed has always been about blending into the crowd and using stealth to attack when it is least expected. It is hard to blend into a battlefield.
