Finished Once & Future at least far as it goes. The current run is clearly a setup for more, with issue 18 (the last one currently published) ending on an epic, apocalyptic, cliffhanger. No sign of when a continuation might be coming though.

Am now sampling some other Kieron Gillen work, beginning with Phonogram, a creator-owned series (i.e. he owns the rights rather than it being done on contract for a publisher).

Billion Dollar Whale, it's a true story of a young guy who is neck-deep in financial fraud, it involves the top banks in the world, Hollywood actors, government officials, it very interesting

I've started back on the Sergei Lukyanenko Watch series, they're entertaining and have a few funny moments in them, five books so far, think there's a sixth but will get it eventually. Into the third book, different pace to the first two as the main characters are fleshed out. Very enjoyable

Every few months I start going back over the Alistair Maclean novels, they're my go-to books - some less strong than others but all his ones relating to the sea/ships are as good as they get for that time/genre

Finished I'm Thinking of Ending Things

I need time to digest and fully understand the ending. Everything I thought about where the story was headed was flipped on its head in the last 20 or so pages. A really interesting, disturbing read, though. Would highly recommend it. It's been made into a Netflix film so I'll watch that at some point this week (though I generally always prefer books to film).

Finished Harlen Coben's Win an enjoyable action crime novel. This one is focused on Win (Windsor Horne Lockwood III) one of the support characters from his earlier action crime novels.

Finished Irvine Welsh's Skagboys. It is a prequel to Trainspotting. So if you have not read Trainspotting try and read this first as it really sets the stage for all the characters very well. Not quite as crazy as Trainspotting or its sequel Porno but very enjoyable all the same.

Read the earlier ones and was pleasantly surprised with the sequels (Blade Artist, Dead Man's Trousers) but can't summon up the enthusiasm for a prequel. Can't really think of any prequel worth the effort.

Just finished Paul Austers New York Trilogy. Fun read. All three stories kept my interest and I like the variations on the classic detective story.

Finished Octavia Butler's Adulthood Rites book 2 in this sci-fi series. The book starting a few years after the end of book 1 and again it is a really interesting and compelling read.

I read two of her books this year (Parable of the Sower and Kindred). She was an absolutely amazing writer.
