Firestarter by Stephen King.

Really enjoyable one of the few books of his I haven't read.

Finished The Night Ship by Jess Kidd the other day, really enjoyed it.

Based on a true story, an epic historical novel from the award-winning author of Things in Jars that illuminates the lives of two characters: a girl shipwrecked on an island off Western Australia and, three hundred years later, a boy finding a home with his grandfather on the very same island.

Nefertiti: Unlocking the Mystery Surrounding Egypt's Most Famous and Beautiful Queen by Joyce Tyldesley

Quite an old book but got this out of interest in all things Ancient Egypt and was a nice light read while on holiday. It is quite fascinating, and the author dispels a number of false theories surrounding one of the most powerful and influential women in Egyptian history.

Just started Andy McNab's Bravo Two Zero, and so far it is brilliant. Great insight into some of the tradecraft and daily lives of Special Forces members in the UK. He also has a very easy style of writing to follow and the dialogue between his characters is true to 1991 - Pulls no punches, very funny stuff comes out of the banter between the soldiers.

Has anyone read Celeste Ng's Our Missing Hearts? I had high hopes, but I'm a hundred pages in and it's all a little boring? The main theme is interesting and relevant, but I'm so far not convinced it warranted a whole novel.

Just finished The Marriage Portrait by Maggie O'Farrell the other day. I was underwhelmed, I have to say.

Currently reading Blood Brotherhoods by John Dickie, a history of the three major Italian crime organizations, the Camorra, Cosa Nostra, and 'Ndrangheta.

It's the best book on organised crime I've read, busting myths while shedding light on a wild array of characters straddling both sides of the law divide.

In telling the story of the emergence of these organisations, Dickie tells the story of the making of modern Italy.

Currently reading The Savage Detectives by Roberto Bolano.

Anybody here read it?

Yes, but this is a good reminder that I need to reread it.

Enjoy it. "2666" edges it as a literary experience for me but Savage Detectives is equally unique and ambitious.
