Pubs or "other activities" in England may need to close to allow schools to reopen next month, a scientist advising the government has said.

Prof Graham Medley told the BBC there may need to be a "trade-off", with the re-opening of schools seen as a "priority" for children's wellbeing.

It came after England's chief medical officer said the country was "near the limit" of opening up society.

This isn't going to go down well down south.

First Minister Nicola Sturgeon has said she "won't hesitate" to reintroduce lockdown restrictions if Covid-19 starts to get "out of control".

She said efforts to deal with the virus created a "delicate balance" which could easily be thrown off kilter.

If that happened, Ms Sturgeon said the government would have to "consider" restrictions "up to and including" shutting pubs and restaurants.

But the first minister said that was "the last thing I want to do".

I think we will have some drastic action over the next week or so. I wouldn't be surprised if businesses are forced to lockdown again.

I'm pretty sure I just have a heavy cold (fairly standard for me!), but due to being feverish and having a sore throat I decided to err on the side of caution, the COVID team agreed and wanted me to get tested.

I had a test yesterday which came back "unclear". I'm booked in again this morning.

• No travel more than 5 miles for leisure. Can travel for work and education.
• Do not visit Aberdeen from outside
• Do not visit other households
• Bars, restaurants, cafes to close. Takeaways open.

Her priority is getting the schools open again next week, they probably shouldn't have opened up hospitality until after then. I can see more areas having restrictions imposed too.

Hardly surprising, there were lots of pictures on social media of people in known Aberdeen pubs ignoring the rules. I think the First Minister she is right on this one.

I'm sure the lack of social distancing in pubs is happening in pubs all over the UK, not just in Aberdeen or Scotland.

Second test came back negative.. Thought it would, but had to be certain working in a school.

Lot of reports saying the UK is heading back into a national lockdown next month as the number of cases continues to increase and the R level is pushing above 1 in certain regions.

Eily and I were out for a drink on Saturday.

Sat at an outside table, downloaded Swifty app, popped my card details in, ordered and paid for it, pint & wine arrived 2 minutes later. They've got my name, phone number, location and bank details, we got drinks. It actually felt better than standing at the bar waiting for service.
