Has anyone read The Emmy Lake Chronicles?

I've just finished the third and it was so nice and satisfying (also I haven't read many stories featuring the rich in London during the war, so it was interesting from that point)

The Bone Hacker by Kathy Reichs.

The latest novel in the Tempe Brennan series. A great read as expected.

Finished Holly by Stephen King yesterday, I enjoyed it.

Started Prophet Song (Paul Lynch) last night. It's kind of reminding me of The Earlie King and the Kid in Yellow. Quite a lyrical prose style, with no direct dialogue and a lot of paragraph-long sentences.

Is it weird to like reading plays but having no interest in seeing them? I've hated it every time I've been to the theatre and hadn't read a play since school until last month.

I've now read An Inspector Calls and some others by Priestley, Gogol's The Government Inspector and Ibsen's Doll's House, Ghosts and Hedda Gabler.

What else is good?

I read 'Everything's Eventual' by Stephen King, which is a collection of his short stories. I enjoyed it and would recommend it if you enjoy his style

Had to read Barbara Kingsolver's Demon Copperhead for a works book club

Found it pretty underwhelming tbh

It's a re-imagining of David Copperfield, which I've not read tbf, but I'm still willing to bet Mr Dickens put a lot more effort into his prose than Ms Kingsolver, it was all very perfunctory . Despite the huge amount of incident I struggled to find any weight in the drama or feel any empathy for any of the characters at all

Hopefully the group pick something better next month

Finished Fredrik Backman's Beartown and it's amazing. Highly recommended.

Also read Project Hail Mary by Andy Weir and it is a good book too but a tiny bit too nerdy at times for my liking.

Just wrapped The Reversal by Michael Connelly, the third book in the Lincoln Lawyer series and the 21st book in the larger Bosch Literary Universe. Connelly's books are becoming like comfort food for me now, so this was, unsurprisingly, another satisying read for me.

Continuing on my "crime spree", I will now return to Peter May with the third novel in his China Thrillers series, The Killing Room.

The Wheel of Doll by Jonathan Ames.

Second book in this entertaining crime series set in Los Angeles.

I've just finished reading Every Smile You Fake by Dorothy Koomson. Well written and nicely put together.

Every Smile You Fake

Every Smile You Fake

An edge-of-your-seat thriller that'll keep you guessing right until the end, get this to the top of your reading pile
