The Donald Trump Presidency Thread | Trump Is A Turd After Hours

Trump thread tracks a presidency sliding from scandal into chaos
5/10 Heated debate

The post sets a basic framework for discussion but lacks specific topics or questions to guide the conversation. It would benefit from more detail to enhance community engagement.

coronavirus response election fraud claims criminal indictments tariffs foreign policy Epstein files

The thread opens as a civil discussion space but quickly becomes a running indictment of Trump's conduct, with participants reacting to false statements, pandemic mismanagement, racist and conspiratorial rhetoric, and repeated examples of dishonesty. Early momentum is dominated by outrage and disbelief at his handling of COVID-19 and the way he uses media attention to shape narratives.12

As the presidency moves into its later stages, the conversation shifts toward legal jeopardy, election subversion, pardons, and the normalization of institutional damage. Posters repeatedly argue that accountability is too weak, that supporters excuse everything, and that Trump's style has corroded democratic norms while deepening domestic polarization.34

In the most recent phase, the thread widens into concerns about foreign policy, trade wars, NATO, Ukraine, Gaza, Greenland, and authoritarian overreach. Reactions remain sharply negative, with users describing his actions as reckless, destabilizing, and increasingly detached from reality, while also noting the broader international fallout and uncertainty his return has created.56

"The jury has found former US President Donald Trump GUILTY of falsifying business records"

"Trump and Vance ganging up on Zelensky and berated him."

Verdict

No clear consensus was ever needed because the thread overwhelmingly converged on condemnation. The main unresolved issue is not whether Trump is harmful, but how much damage his actions and supporters will ultimately allow.

Trump backed off the tariffs on Canda for 30 days - Trudeau agreed to implement their 1.3b border plan - a border plan that was agreed last November, it's ready to go. It's all smoke and mirrors - very damaging smoke though.

Meanwhile, look what Musk is doing.

Yeah, it looks like almost the exact same plan that Canada proposed back in November/December, the bit about declaring cartels terrorists might be new.

Neither Mexico nor Canada are really giving up anything too significant, just something Trump will use to make himself look good. And as much as I'm sure they would have liked to tell him to "f-off", it isn't worth it for them to do so.

What the actual f*ck?!

Donald Trump says he wants the US to "take over" Gaza, take a "long-term ownership position", and turn it into the "Riviera of the Middle East".

At a White House news conference with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, he says: "The US will take over the Gaza Strip, and we will do a job with it too. We'll own it"

He says Palestinians could be resettled away from Gaza, "in areas where the leaders currently say no".

Jordan and Egypt reject the idea of Palestinians being resettled - while the Palestinian ambassador to the UN says "our homeland is our homeland"

Netanyahu says Trump's plan is an idea "worth paying attention to"

Trump has doubled down on wanting the US to take over Palestine, and that they can go "somewhere else".

Does he not grasp the fact that Palestine isn't Israel's to hand over?

His supporters online still haven't come up with a script yet for this and the Republicans who were playing it down are stuck in limbo. If it wasn't so grim it's actually quite hilarious to watch all this unfold.

This is surely all distraction. The Gaza idea is so utterly crazy and unworkable that even Trump must realise it, BUT, it's taken press and public attention away from the hugely damaging consequences of Musk's arbitrary closure of USAID. Without the Gaza "speech" (or ramblings), headlines might well have been "World's richest man condemns millions to starvation and disease in pursuit of his own ideology", but instead that's gone almost unnoticed.

It's cynical, cruel and entirely self-interested, but those are Trump's and Musk's hallmarks.

Coming soon? A Trump plan to end the Ukraine war by dispossessing all Ukrainians, moving them out of their country and handing it over to Russia to resettle? After the resulting outcry, any concessions to Putin would seem almost acceptable by comparison. At one time I'd have thought that possibility was ludicrous, but after the last few weeks, I'm not so sure.

This just flashed up on my phone.

President Donald Trump is expected to sign a pair of executive orders Thursday afternoon, one targeting the International Criminal Court and a second on "anti-Christian bias," a White House official confirmed.
The ICC move is expected to place financial and visa sanctions on "individuals and their family members who assist in ICC investigations of US citizens or our allies," according to a fact sheet obtained by CNN, an effort to punish the body for issuing arrest warrants for top Israeli officials, including Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and former Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.

"Today, I'm signing an executive order to make our attorney general — who's a great person, she's going to be a great attorney general, Pam Bondi — the head of a task force brand new to eradicate anti-Christian bias," he said.

America is stumbling from one cluster fuck to another

NASA Ordered to Remove Anything About 'Women in Leadership' From Its Websites: Report
NASA is working to comply with President Donald Trump's crusade targeting diversity and inclusion at federal agencies, reportedly scrapping key terms from its websites related to accessibility, indigenous people, women, and other topics deemed "wasteful" by the current administration.

In a memo sent out on January 22, NASA employees were ordered to "scrub" mentions certain terms from the agency's websites by end of day, according to reports. "This is a drop everything and reprioritize your day request," the memo read. "Note that the list below is the list that exists this morning, but it may grow as the day goes on."

The list includes mentions of diversity, equity, inclusion programs (DEIA), underrepresented groups/people, environmental justice, and "anything specifically targeting women (women in leadership, etc.)," per the memo obtained by media outlets.

The rest of the world NEEDS to loudly denounce these latest moves regarding Gaza.

What he's doing to USAID is morally reprehensible (big surprise, I know), but it's also completely against the USA's and his own interests.

The foreign aid budget is something like 1% of the federal budget but does immeasurable good to the image of the USA globally. All they are doing by cutting the USAID budget - which will result in people dying - is handing China an opportunity to step in and be the good guys.

So Trump is planning to take Gaza or at least get it handed over to the US. Can you imagine the outrage if another of the superpowers took over a country? Does Trump not realise he is destroying the name of the US?

What allies will the US have after 4 years of Trump? Israel? Russia? Turkey? North Korea?
