Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4
Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 is a first-person shooter and the follow-up to Modern Warfare III (2023), continuing the rebooted Modern Warfare storyline. The campaign is set during a North Korean invasion of South Korea and features dual perspectives: a young South Korean soldier named Private Park facing his first combat deployment, and Captain Price operating outside official channels on a personal mission. The game also includes multiplayer with 6v6 core maps, large-scale vehicle combat maps, and a dynamic map system called Kill Block that reshapes layouts between rounds. A DMZ extraction mode is also featured. The game is released exclusively on current-generation platforms and PC.

Infinity Ward has just rolled out the first significant update to the beta, and it's packed with changes based on player feedback from day one.

Here's what you can expect:

Key Updates:
  • A brand new map has been introduced, offering fresh terrain for players to explore and strategise on.
  • A new game mode has been added, expanding the gameplay options and keeping things interesting.
  • One of the most talked-about changes is the adjustment to footstep audio. Players reported that footstep sounds were a bit too pronounced, and the developers have toned them down for a more balanced experience.
  • Weapon lethality has also been tweaked, ensuring that the gameplay feels fair and competitive.
  • Map voting has been implemented, giving players more control over their gaming experience.
Thank you to everyone for your energy on Day 1 of the Early Access Beta. We had a blast playing with you, and we're ready to run it back all weekend.

Day 2 will bring a variety of bug fixes and gameplay adjustments, including a new Map and Mode which join the Multiplayer rotation at 10:00am PT

We'll be deploying an update shortly that aims to address a lot of the community feedback from yesterday. We heard you loud and clear on the footstep volume, so we've adjusted things downward for today. We've been following the conversation and agree that time-to-kill (TTK) isn't quite right yet, so we've tuned down the lethality of some of our guns to start. Finally, we made a tweak to boost visibility on Transit 213. Let us know if you think these adjustments are in the right direction, and expect more in the future.

We also know some of you had some trouble getting into the Beta yesterday, and we'll be working over time to clarify in-game error messaging and improve our Secure Attestation Wizard for PC players. Keep in mind the wizard doesn't just diagnose issues, it fixes them too, so give it a try if you haven't already.

We're working every day of the Beta to improve the experience, so keep the feedback coming. We're listening.

  • Frangible Rounds
  • Reduced Frangible slow duration by 26.8%.
  • Reduced Frangible slow magnitude by 21.4%.
AUDIO

Footsteps & Player Sound Effects
  • Reduced the distance at which enemy footstep and gear audio can be heard.
  • Decreased overall enemy footstep and gear audio volume.
Our objective for movement audio is to indicate when enemies are approaching without revealing their exact positions at a distance. We'll continue looking at feedback on this topic throughout the Beta.

CHALLENGES

Daily Challenges
  • Enabled the ability to reroll Daily Challenges.
BUG FIXES
  • Fixed an issue where players were unable to start or complete the Mobility Course.
  • Fixed a bug that could cause footstep audio to incorrectly use wet-surface sounds when players were moving across dry areas.
  • Fixed an issue that prevented the Global Panel from being opened using its assigned keybind.
  • Fixed a disconnect issue caused by Seeker Drones.
  • Fixed various errors when navigating in the front-end menu.
  • Fixed an issue that could cause an error when entering the Gunsmith without a valid Weapon selected.
  • Fixed various errors when switching between or reconnecting controllers.
  • Fixed an issue where joining a friend from the menu would prevent you from being able to access some settings.
  • Fixed a bug that caused party members to remain in a looping animation in the Multiplayer Lobby.
  • Fixed an issue that could make certain magnified Optics opaque while aiming down sights.
  • Fixed a rare disconnect issue in Gunfight 10v10.
KNOWN ISSUES
  • Join in progress is temporarily disabled on Kill Block
  • We know this isn't ideal! We're actively working on a fix for this issue that's caused by a bug in the round transition.
  • Cooking some lethals can result in an FPS drop.
  • We're investigating reports of this and hope to have a fix soon.
Follow our Trello board for live issue tracking throughout the day.

Activision has released the official campaign trailer for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, and it leans heavily on in-engine cinematics.

The campaign is set against the backdrop of a full-scale invasion that pushes the world to the brink of war. Players will follow a young squad of South Korean soldiers trying to survive on the front lines, while Captain Price carries out a personal mission from the shadows and stays ahead of those hunting him. As his path intersects with the forces behind the invasion, the conflict escalates even further.

The game is aiming for a darker tone and a story focused on the cost of war. It will also bring several long-running storylines to a dramatic conclusion. The campaign will take players across multiple locations worldwide, including the trenches of Korea, the streets of New York, Paris, SAS night raids in Mumbai, and occupied cities that must be reclaimed.

Infinity Ward has given a closer look at the DMZ mode, which combines the franchise's story with an extraction formula.

The mode takes players to Argent City, where North Korean troops and rogue operators are both trying to get their hands on weapons. Looting is central to the loop, with objectives to complete to improve DMZ rank.

Players will need to decide who to fight based on the rewards on offer, then bring whatever they collect back to their Forward Operating Base, or FOB, which serves as the command centre for the mode.

The FOB can be upgraded with different stations, including a 3D Printer, each offering its own functionality for future missions.

Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 will give pre-order players early access to DMZ ahead of its full launch later this month.

Activision and Infinity Ward have outlined the rollout for the mode, which joins campaign early access for those who pre-ordered either the standard or Vault Edition versions of the game on PC, Nintendo Switch 2, PlayStation 5 and Xbox Series X/S.

Eligible players will get early access to the campaign from Friday, October 16. DMZ early access follows on Tuesday, October 20, before the full launch on Friday, October 23.

Infinity Ward has described the new version of DMZ as the series' "definitive extraction shooter experience", with persistent progression in the open-world combat environment known as the Hajin Exclusion Zone.

DMZ was first introduced in 2022's Modern Warfare 2 and was later expanded, but support ended in late 2023. Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4 launches October 23 for PC and consoles.
