The Donald Trump Presidency Thread | Trump Is A Turd After Hours

Trump thread tracks a presidency sliding from scandal into chaos
5/10 Heated debate

The post sets a basic framework for discussion but lacks specific topics or questions to guide the conversation. It would benefit from more detail to enhance community engagement.

coronavirus response election fraud claims criminal indictments tariffs foreign policy Epstein files

The thread opens as a civil discussion space but quickly becomes a running indictment of Trump's conduct, with participants reacting to false statements, pandemic mismanagement, racist and conspiratorial rhetoric, and repeated examples of dishonesty. Early momentum is dominated by outrage and disbelief at his handling of COVID-19 and the way he uses media attention to shape narratives.12

As the presidency moves into its later stages, the conversation shifts toward legal jeopardy, election subversion, pardons, and the normalization of institutional damage. Posters repeatedly argue that accountability is too weak, that supporters excuse everything, and that Trump's style has corroded democratic norms while deepening domestic polarization.34

In the most recent phase, the thread widens into concerns about foreign policy, trade wars, NATO, Ukraine, Gaza, Greenland, and authoritarian overreach. Reactions remain sharply negative, with users describing his actions as reckless, destabilizing, and increasingly detached from reality, while also noting the broader international fallout and uncertainty his return has created.56

"The jury has found former US President Donald Trump GUILTY of falsifying business records"

"Trump and Vance ganging up on Zelensky and berated him."

Verdict

No clear consensus was ever needed because the thread overwhelmingly converged on condemnation. The main unresolved issue is not whether Trump is harmful, but how much damage his actions and supporters will ultimately allow.

According to a Sky News report, Trump has made a claim on Truth Social that Russia and Ukraine have agreed to a ceasefire on their fuel refining sites, and Zelensky has agreed to presidential elections being held. It all smells too much like a rerun of previous Trump "peace in my time" statements to be taken seriously, especially as it's a two-issue report, an unbelievable line re-issued by Trump.
Zelensky has already said it's news to him. Trump is just making crap up again or feeding a line from the Kremlin.

Zelensky has said he will agree if Putin does too. He has also said Russia has targeted energy facilities in Kharkiv after Trump's surprise announcement.

And even more disgusting news is that the US is threatening to block Ukrainian weapons after Kyiv's deep strikes on Russian oil refineries, the Financial Times reports.

The publication says officials from the US have called European allies to lobby for an end to the attacks on Russia's energy infrastructure.

The message from the States reportedly included threats to cut off intelligence sharing and the Purl (Prioritised Ukraine Requirements List) mechanism for procuring ‌US weapons for Ukraine.

The White House has not commented.

Donald Trump has made his thoughts known in recent days, saying yesterday that Zelenskyy "better damn well stop" attacking Russian refineries.

Trump has blamed rising fuel prices in the States on Ukraine, rather than the US-led war in Iran.

Nearly 8 in 10 Americans blame the Trump administration for rising costs of living across the country, according to a poll released Friday.

The Reuters survey found 78 percent of respondents in the U.S. - including 64 percent of Republicans, 76 percent of independents and 95 percent of Democrats - believe some of the responsibility for hiked prices lies with the White House.

Hopefully shows up in the voting in the Midterms in a few weeks

Just seen this on Sky News

Donald Trump says Vladimir Putin and Volodymyr Zelenskyy "have to get together and end that ridiculous war".

Asked whether both sides have actually green-lit his energy ceasefire, Trump says "they agreed because I said they agree".

He's also asked about Ukraine's claims that Russia has violated Trump's energy ceasefire at least six times today.

"I'll have to look at it and see because there's been violations on both sides," he replies.

Trump then goes on to claim, "Putin wants to make a deal more than Zelenskyy".

The man is an idiot.

Bloomberg reports that Trump's CFTC officials were told to retract an insider-trading referral after suspicious trades were placed just 15 minutes before Trump reversed course on attacking Iranian power plants.

Traders had bet roughly $580 MILLION on falling oil prices before Trump's announcement sent prices plunging.

According to Bloomberg, a senior adviser to the CFTC chairman intervened after analysts flagged the trades for investigation.

Trump posted the video of the man in England getting mauled by the tiger with the caption "don't mess with nature" and Steven Thumb reposted it on the government account. What a shower of sick bastards

And, it gets a lot worse. Trump then posted an AI video of himself playing with that tiger.

Powerful speech by Giorgia Meloni, Prime Minister of Italy, today. Here is the full five-minute excerpt of her speech devoted to Ukraine and Donald Trump.

"Russia has launched a new autumn campaign against Ukraine.Unable to advance on the battlefield, Moscow has increasingly turned its attacks against civilians: power plants, residential buildings, hospitals, and even buses carrying people to work, as in the horrific massacre in Kramatorsk.

This is a strategy through which Russia seeks to subjugate Ukraine with terror, cold, and darkness, simply because it has failed to conquer it on the battlefield.

The facts contradict Kremlin propaganda and those who spread it here.

Since the beginning of the year, Russia has captured very little territory, and in September it lost much of what it had previously seized. This halt did not happen by chance. It was achieved through Ukraine's courage and Western support, including that of Italy.

This resistance is the only effective instrument for bringing Russia to the negotiating table.I respect and understand the passionate debate on this issue, including within this chamber, because nobody here wants war.

We all want peace.

The difference lies in how we intend to achieve it.

As I see it, supporting Ukraine is not an alternative to peace. It is what makes peace possible.

Because if an aggressor expects its opponent to surrender, why would it negotiate?

Surrender is not peace. It is conquest. If Ukraine stopped defending itself tomorrow, as many suggest, we would not have peace. We would be discussing the occupation of a European nation and the return of Soviet imperialism.

Personally, I do not miss those times. I do not miss Russian tanks crushing uprisings in Prague and Budapest.

I do not miss the Berlin Wall. And nobody will ever convince me that the surrender of those defending their freedom can be called 'peace.'

The peace we want, and the peace we are working toward, even at the cost of concessions, is a just peace, because only a just peace can endure.

Only a just peace can protect Europe and our interests.

That is why our government's position remains unchanged: support for Ukraine, with particular attention to civilians, pressure on Moscow, and Euro-Atlantic unity remain the pillars of our actions.

In this context, we must address Donald Trump's diesel agreement with Russia.

This is a decision I consider extremely risky.

Of course, we all recognize the need to contain fuel prices, which place a heavy burden on families, including Italian families. But we must understand that rising prices are primarily linked to the war in Iran, not Ukraine.

Legitimizing Moscow, whose bombs continue to fall on Ukrainian cities, providing new revenues to finance the war, and weakening sanctions are all factors we cannot ignore.

And they contradict everything Western nations, including the United States, have done to force Putin to the negotiating table.

An energy ceasefire is a different matter, one that Italy supports, and we are grateful to President Zelenskyy for Ukraine's immediate willingness to agree to it.

Now we expect Russia to stop attacking Ukraine's energy infrastructure.

Finally, at such a difficult moment, when so many variables are beyond our control, there is at least one thing that depends on us:

We must ensure that Europe does not simply stand by and watch, because the terms of peace will affect our continent and our security."
