First practice was cancelled after just nine minutes when Carlos Sainz hit a manhole cover that had come loose.

Esteban Ocon's Alpine was damaged in the same way before the session was cut short.

Ferrari boss Frederic Vasseur said Sainz's car had a damaged chassis, engine and battery and would miss the second session if it happened.

The FIA said there would be an indefinite delay while all manhole covers around the track were checked.

FIA STATEMENT: "Following inspection, it was the concrete frame around a manhole cover that has failed. We now need to check all of the other manhole covers which will take some time."

Oh dear, not the first time a drain cover has caused problems, but you would have thought first race here, thing would have been double and triple checked.

Grid penalty for Sainz because he needs a new engine. Absolutely ridiculous.

At least having Alonso, Hamilton, Perez and Sainz starting 9th, 10th, 11th, 12th will make it interesting. Especially seeing if they can all catch up and overtake 2 Williams rocketships.

And it would be nice if Leclerc could win a race this season. He's had enough horrible luck.

I enjoyed that race, more than I thought I would at the start, turned out to be a decent race.

Max worthy of his win. Mistakes were made, penalties served but a decent win.

Cracking second for Leclerc, well deserved. Good recovery and result from Perez.

Plenty of good racing behind the top 3. Not quite the shitshow I was expecting.

A few tweaks to the track and maybe race timing and this could become a very good race each season

Watched the highlights, by this year's standards it was a very good race.
