A New-look European Super League Proposed Soccer

The post lacks depth and specific insights, making it feel low-effort. It's also quite vague about key points of the new proposal, which limits its relevance and value to the community.

Reichart said the new-look Super League would be an open competition, with qualification achieved via performance at a national level and with all its teams competing in their domestic leagues.

Those national leagues would remain "the foundation" of the game, Reichart said and argued that the new Super League would generate new revenues to support the entire pyramid.

The guarantee of a minimum of 14 matches, Reichart says, would provide "stability and predictability" of revenue.

Reichart set out plans for cost control measures, saying clubs should spend only a fixed percentage of their annual football-related revenue on player salaries and net transfers.

I am not totally against this, it is better than the last one, but still, need to see more about it.

This one could be a runner as they got rid of the biggest obstacle before - meritocracy.

Now if you look at the wider European football ecosystem, what right has, for example, Crystal Palace to sit in mid-table in the Premier League and have more money than Ajax or Benfica because they're English? Premier League shouldn't be afraid of a bit of competition, they're living a charmed life at the moment, eating up all the other leagues

I don't actively want this but at the same time, if there's no 'closed shop' or permanent members, I don't see how it's much of a grave threat to anybody except UEFA. The devil could be in the further details I suppose.

By the sounds of things the ESL is not going away, if the uproar last time didn't dissuade them, nothing will. They will keep going either until it happens on their terms or there will be some sort of negotiation/middle ground with UEFA.

I still do not like this "having your cake and eat it" attitude and the home leagues would need to do something to address the inequalities of those not qualifying. Perhaps with caps to prevent these teams utilising the extra cash unless they do it effectively and certainly with no allowance for these matches in the fixture schedules.

Its going to happen, and to the detriment of a level playing field, as both UEFA and the EPL do not have the bollocks to stand up to the historically big teams!

Premier League teams don't have the problem that the super league is "trying" to solve.

In other countries, there aren't 20 good enough teams to make every match a spectacle. Why? Because of the disparity in income. The more you concentrate the revenue, the fewer exciting matches you end up with.

So Real Madrid needs to play PSG instead of Elche, Ajax in place of Getafe and Juventus instead of Cadiz. They want what the Premier League already has where every game is a spectacle, every team is good and they're all investing to get better.

Maybe some teams do need to set up a cross-border rival to the Premier League. But English teams are fine where they are.

It's going to come to fruition, sooner or later.

Some clubs may object to it and refuse to partake, but their best players won't be hanging around long. 99.9% of players will jump if given the opportunity to play for a club who will be taking part in it because of the money that will come along with it.

That's where football is at now unfortunately.

The biggest problem is the big clubs want all the cash the super league would bring plus to still play in their respective leagues, with even more money generated by the Super League.

They essentially want the best of everything as long as it maintains them at the top of the pile and mountains of cash coming in. The pace will quicken once Man Utd are taken over and with Chelsea and Liverpool struggling in the league this year.

Leicester winning the league was a one off that the big clubs won't want to see again
