Well, this came from nowhere, but colour me very interested. Hawley of Legion and Fargo fame to head an Alien show. No major details yet, except that it will be set on earth

A series set in the "Alien" universe from Noah Hawley is officially set up at FX.

The announcement was made Thursday by FX chief John Landgraf as part of the Disney Investor Day presentation. Hawley will write and executive produce the series under his 26 Keys banner, with "Alien" mastermind Ridley Scott in advanced talks to executive produce via Scott Free. FX Productions will produce. Per Landgraf, the show is "Set not too far into our future, it's the first 'Alien' story set on Earth."

"FX is moving quickly to bring audiences the first television series based on one of the greatest science- fiction horror classics ever made: 'Alien,'" Landgraf said. "'Alien' will be helmed by 'Fargo' and 'Legion's' Noah Hawley stepping into the creator/executive producer chair, and FX is in advanced negotiations with Academy Award winner, Sir Ridley Scott—director of the first 'Alien' film and the sequel, 'Alien: Covenant'—to join the project as an Executive Producer. Set not too far into our future, it's the first 'Alien' story set on Earth—and by blending both the timeless horror of the first 'Alien' film with the non-stop action of the second, it's going to be a scary thrill ride that will blow people back in their seats."

One of my all-time favourite movie franchises. This could go either way. Thanks for the heads up I'll be keeping an eye on this.

I wonder how successful this could be as material for a tv series really though, notwithstanding the books.

Even getting more than a couple of decent movies out of it has proved a struggle.

The impact of the aliens was greatly lessened after the first [x] number of alien encounters across the movies.

(although I actually liked Prometheus to an extent - Covenant was crap)

Tom

Brian Wood did a pretty decent comic that saw Ripley's daughter Amanda, last seen in the Alien Isolation game, looking for her mother, pairing up with colonial marine and a synthetic to frustrate Weyland Yutani attempts to weaponize the Aliens. It would make a solid basis for a tv show.

If I remember correctly, a couple of those Alien shorts from last year were pretty good.

A TV series could be a success.

This could be decent

Looks good. I'm just slightly uneasy about the whole "5 different lifeforms from distant planets". So are we getting all new aliens… not just the xenos? Keep the formula simple please.

I would love this series to be good. Fingers crossed. I will definitely give it a go.

Big fan of the Alien films, but I think the whole "franchise" has been treading water for a while. Thought Romulus from last year was absolutely terrible - the worst film of the entire lot, and thought maybe there's nothing more that they can do with the universe.

But, hey, I'm willing to see what they'll do with this.
