The post provides clear information regarding the cancellation of the Ballon d'Or in 2020 and effectively invites community engagement with a question. However, it could benefit from more context about the award's significance.

The Ballon d'Or will not be awarded in 2020, the award organisers Group L'Equipe have confirmed.

The decision comes after consultation with the group stakeholders, who decided that the conditions under which the award is usually handed out could not be met this year.

"As the organiser of the Ballon d'Or, the Group L'Equipe, to which France Football belongs, decided not to award the most prestigious individual trophy there is in 2020," a statement said.

Who do you think should have won this year's Ballon d'Or?

It honestly doesn't even make sense. Most of the relevant leagues are being played till the end, the Champions League too is being played till the end.

Robert Lewandowski would almost certainly have won in my opinion, something like 43 goals in 51 games this season.

Robert Lewandowski or Kevin De Bruyne. Both have been outstanding this season. Lewandowski probably edging it.

I think the conversation should include Lewandowski, De Bruyne, Sergio Ramos (maybe not a popular choice but he scored vital goals for Madrid in the title run-in and their defence was solid), Sadio Mane and Mo Salah (you could have a whole host of Liverpool players, they have been that dominant this season) and of course, Messi and Ronaldo are still performing at a high level.

Lewandowski would be my choice too.

Sadio Mane, Mo Salah or Lewandowski. I've not listed De Bruyne, I agree he has had an exceptional season but these awards usually go to someone who has won their league, cups or European trophy - if City wins the CL then I might change my choices!!

43 goals in 51 games this season.
52 goals in 41 appearances (+1 as sub)

Messi in La Liga/Copa Del Rey/Champions League = 39 (2) appearances with 29 goals and 24 assists. 5 of those goals were penalties.
Lewandowski in DFB Pokal/Bundesliga/Champions League = 41 (1) appearances with 52 goals and 6 assists. (He's top scorer in all of those contests too btw, 5 ahead of the next competitor in the Champions League - Haaland who is 1 behind isn't in the tournament anymore). 6 of those goals were penalties.
Ronaldo in Coppa Italia/Champions League/Serie A = 40 appearances with 32 goals and 5 assists. 12 of those goals were penalties.

Even if Bayern don't get past the QF stages (I think everyone assumes they'll beat Chelsea) he had a cracking shot at winning this award because individually which is what this award is about, he has had the best season out of all of them.

Those stats for Lewandowski are ridiculous, something we've only seen from Messi or Ronaldo in the past.

Lewandowski has been robbed but he can still win the FIFA award
