Recent announcements have highlighted the necessity of enabling Secure Boot and TPM 2.0 in BIOS settings for players to launch Call of Duty: Black Ops 7. This requirement mirrors similar conditions set for Battlefield 6, indicating a shift in the security protocols for modern gaming.

Secure Boot is a crucial feature designed to prevent unauthorised software from running during startup, ensuring that only trusted programs load. It acts as a barrier against malware such as rootkits and is not an invasive measure by gaming companies but rather a protective mechanism for users. On the other hand, TPM 2.0 is a security chip integral to maintaining data integrity and is already a prerequisite for systems running Windows 11.

In addition, players currently engaged with Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 and Warzone should prepare for these requirements as they will be enforced with the upcoming Season 5. Without enabling Secure Boot and TPM 2.0, access to these games will be restricted.

As for the storyline of Call of Duty: Black Ops 7, it promises an engaging narrative set in a dystopian future where players will assume the role of David Mason and confront a formidable adversary. The game will feature a co-op campaign, multiplayer experiences with innovative weaponry, and a new chapter in the Zombies saga.

While the release date remains unconfirmed, and specific PC requirements are yet to be disclosed, this shift towards enhanced security reflects broader trends in the gaming industry aimed at safeguarding user experiences.

Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 will not offer traditional difficulty settings for its campaign mode. Instead, the game employs a dynamic difficulty scaling system that adjusts based on the number of players involved, whether in solo or co-op modes for up to four players.

Associate Creative Director Miles Leslie explained that this design choice was made to enhance the experience for all players. "For the difficulty, it's baked in," he stated, emphasising the need for a cohesive experience that balances challenge and fun for both solo players and teams. This means that fans who typically enjoy tackling campaigns on veteran difficulty will have to adapt to this new format.

This change has sparked a conversation within the community. Many players appreciate the intent to create a more inclusive experience. In contrast, others lament the absence of a customizable challenge, a hallmark of the series that has long been a staple.

As we look forward to Black Ops 7's release, it's crucial to consider how these design choices will affect gameplay dynamics and player engagement. Will this innovation foster a more collaborative atmosphere, or will it alienate those seeking a hardcore challenge?

Activision has reported that an impressive 97% of cheaters were caught within just 30 minutes of logging in. This is a testament to the effectiveness of their anti-cheat initiative, Team Ricochet, which has implemented robust systems to detect and eliminate cheating attempts before they can disrupt gameplay.

Activision's proactive approach means that fewer than 1% of cheating attempts made it to an actual match. The company has emphasised that while their automated systems have significantly improved detection rates, player reports remain essential in refining their methods and enhancing overall enforcement strategies.

Interestingly, Activision has also targeted cheat providers, claiming that many of them have acknowledged that their tools are ineffective for Black Ops 7. Since the launch of Black Ops 6, Activision has closed down over 40 cheat developers and resellers, indicating a commitment to tackling the issue beyond just in-game measures.

As the official launch date approaches, Activision assures players that every layer of protection will be fully operational and continually evolving. The fight against cheating is recognised as a significant industry-wide challenge, and Activision expresses a strong dedication to ensuring fair play.

For those interested in participating in the beta, it's crucial to enable TPM 2.0 and Secure Boot on PC, as failure to do so could result in being barred from gameplay during the beta and beyond.

In a notable departure from the series' traditional single-player campaign, Call of Duty: Black Ops 7 presents a gaming experience that emphasises co-op play over solitary storytelling. This shift has led to what some may consider the most lopsided and uniform entry in the franchise's recent history. However, when approached with the right mindset, it offers a consistently enjoyable experience.

The narrative opens with a poignant moment as a character pays homage to Frank Woods, a long-standing figure in the series. The storyline unfolds decades after the events of its predecessor, Black Ops 6, propelling players into a new chapter. The dialogue encapsulates a driving philosophy: "Stop looking backwards… What matters is what you do next." This sentiment reflects the developers' intention to move forward, even if it means abandoning long-established traditions.

Historically, Call of Duty has been synonymous with cinematic single-player campaigns that placed players in the midst of grandiose spectacles—nuclear explosions, intense firefights, and dramatic story arcs. While players can embark on a solo journey in Black Ops 7, the experience is designed primarily for co-operative play. Engaging with the game as a solo player may prove cumbersome, as the narrative and gameplay mechanics are tailored for multiple participants.

The action in Black Ops 7 is inherently broader and simpler due to the co-op format. Stealth missions can quickly escalate into chaotic gunfights, and boss encounters are constructed around multiple players tackling formidable opponents. The game introduces a robotic threat, with enemies typically adorned in armour, ensuring that all players have an opportunity to contribute to the action. The developers have successfully made encounters with these mechanical foes engaging, enhancing the audio feedback as bullets interact with the environment, creating a satisfying experience.

The gameplay is punctuated with an abundance of weapons and gear, designed for ease of access rather than realism. Dialogue tends to take a backseat to the more immediate needs of co-op gameplay, focusing on action rather than narrative depth. This is a stark contrast to the immersive sequences found in previous titles, where players could explore richly detailed environments and interact meaningfully with the game world.

Yet, the campaign does draw on the series' storied history through dreamlike sequences, revisiting past events and characters. While this serves as nostalgia for long-time fans, it also creates a dissonance, as Black Ops 7 leans more towards fast-paced action reminiscent of games like Destiny rather than the more intricate storytelling of prior entries. The writers seem to aspire to deeper themes, such as personal redemption, but the frenetic pace often overshadows these attempts.

Multiplayer modes retain the series' hallmark of competitive play, with additional features like an 'overload device' that adds a fresh twist to the gameplay. The new 20v20 mode, Skirmish, is a mixed bag, attempting to expand the combat experience but sometimes failing to maintain engagement. Conversely, the Zombies mode continues to thrive as a complex, self-referential horde experience that remains beloved among its community.

As Activision looks to evolve the game's landscape, incorporating live-service elements, there is a concern that the series may lose its diverse appeal. Historically, Call of Duty has offered distinct experiences for solo, co-op, and competitive players. The absence of a traditional single-player campaign in Black Ops 7 risks homogenising the experience, diluting the variety that the franchise is known for.

Despite the bold changes, there remains hope for a return to the classic single-player format in future titles. The legacy of compelling solo campaigns is a significant aspect of what has made Call of Duty a staple in the gaming community.

In conclusion, if players can embrace the new direction of Black Ops 7, they are likely to find enjoyment in its co-op-centric gameplay. However, the long-term implications of these changes may not bode well for the franchise's future.

Worst campaign I've played on a Call of Duty game. I gave up and won't be returning to it.

I gave up and won't be returning to it.
I didn't even make it to the end of the first level. I've heard and read that it doesn't get any better - and people aren't happy.

I've never really been a Call of Duty fan but I gave this a go since it was on Game Pass.

Not for me, I'm afraid. Some really weird stuff going on like giant machetes falling from the sky
