A very average pilot episode for me. It is set in 1993 so it's set about two years after the film.

Due to complicated rights issues of franchise characters between Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer and Dino de Laurentiis Company, the series cannot feature or make reference to Hannibal Lecter.

Mad that they can't say the name Lecter due to copyright since Lecter is so important in creating Clarice and making her the investigator she is.

Doesn't surprise me, though, given that he got his own TV series (Mad Mikkelson as Hannibal) and I think NF currently owns the rights to it. It is a pain when rights get split up like this though. Remember that the Eon Pictures Bond movies couldn't use SPECTRE for over forty years (from Diamonds are Forever in 1971 until SPECTRE in 2015) due to rights issues, and Kevin McClory, the guy who had those rights, could basically only do remakes of Thunderball (he only did one, though, Never Say Never Again).

On the show itself, based on the reviews I am seeing, I'd probably watch Hannibal instead. Sounds like a much better show from what I have heard about it.
